If you're playing 3-5-2 / 5-3-2 or any formation with 3 centre halves then the wing back role is much more important in an attacking sense than a defensive one, the wing backs have to get forward and create chances and you need athletes in those positions.

If you're worried about a wing back being caught up the pitch when you have 3 centre halves and a sitter in front of them then you're being far too negative.
