I’m not sure I agree, he did some decent defensive work as well. Was it Barnes who was trying to turn him inside out but he stuck to him and got the block in? That stood out for me, thought it was decent.
His positioning is questionable and teams love to play deep diagonal ball against us.

For me Patterson tonight showed the best and worst aspects of his game. We know he’s got attacking ability and he showed that , but his understanding of his defensive role and ability to get back is still poor. I’m thinking particularly about the penalty. He moved about 10 yards too far up the pitch , then he tried to run full pelt to catch Maddison , who was Gardner‘s man , but Harvey Barnes was pulling away from him into the position he should have been at right back . It’s a bit bizarre in that he has pace when attacking but regularly fails to get back into position at a fast pace. You can’t blame him for the penalty of course, it’s just a worry for me that nobody is working with him on this weakness.

Nothing wrong with the lad. Stopping faffing about and play him. No worse than some of other tossers, and better than Holgate/Godfrey. Has Seamus’s boots to fill now and am sure Seamus will be right behind him.

Filling Coleman's boots would be a tough task for any player. He's been a total legend for club and country

Brighton have some excellent attackers but it's probably time for Patterson and Dyche to put their big boy pants on

Not sure there's too many other options at this point anyway

The thing is that if you have your full backs go up the pitch, then there is meant to be cover, usually from the CB or sometimes midfield. None of the other teams who use FBs who push up expect them to be getting straight back into defence again, they always have cover.

Ah but the other teams don't currently employ Michael Keane

Godfrey and Holgate not even making the bench tonight said it all.

Patterson is in for the rest of the season. He needs to stay fit.

It really doesn't say anything - Dyche will probably put Godfrey in for reasons unknown.

Wasn't Holgate banned for these 2 games? If not - we should ban him anyway.

Two yellows is only one match ban so he served it for Newcastle and was available for selection tonight. Godfrey needs to be taken out for his own good, perhaps he'll pop up on the bench again for Wolves away but need to avoid him on the pitch at all costs.

Ah right, forgot it was 2 and sadly not a straight red and a lifetime ban.

I still don't think Dyche will select Patterson as he's under the age of 25, so we'll probably see Keane at right back or something daft.

Feel bad for Patterson really.

He has a long long way to go to equal Seamus, who let’s not forget, despite the current circumstances, often gets slammed when he cocks up.

But Patterson looked fiery as soon as he came in, but it was so stop start. No idea what the thinking was with Godfrey/Holgate. But I have no problem at this point with mistakes, our squad is riddled with mistakes all over the pitch. Let the lad just play now, whatever happens. Get on with it. He isn’t terrible, and looks like he isn’t a fanny. Paid a relative fortune but the club terrified to let him play actual real life football. Ffs. Beggars belief how weird we are.

Would rather see him clattering a few people, bombing forward and getting caught out making the odd error, as opposed to silent Myko on the other side quietly being just about “acceptable” every week.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see if he leaves him in the team or brings in Holgate/Godfrey again. Patterson certainly didn’t do anything bad that would warrant being left out, but I think there’s a good chance it might happen.

Agree will be a risk playing him but best option for me now coleman will be out, he will only improve with a run of games. I still think is potential with him and hope we give him a chance
