Oh mate, I absolutely doff my hat to you! That is putting him down without even getting in the ring! Ha…I notice I’m drawn at home against lower league opposition.

Anyone who thinks that haven't read my posts on this thread.
A complete caricature of my psotion on this player has been preferred.
What can I tell you - some people prefer to knock down straw men rather than debate. A reflection on them I feel, not me.
Yeah, go on, do it. I want to see the hot take on Patterson collated.Don't make me go collect your posts.
Are these tackles, or like assist tackles, or did McNeil tackle 8 times and give them to Patterson? I can't work it out. ?
Its where he keeps his Bucky.I’ve just seen this.
Most important question: why does he look like he’s cradling an injured bird? Does he also give aid to poorly animals in his spare time?
I’ll say yes.
What a guy.

Got sucked into Sterling's run and lost him; the pass into the box unlocked that chance and pen for them.
Here's what Patterson excells at: when a ball pops loosley out from the opposition back four he is always on his toes anticipating that and looking to get an interception and he takes the threat to them in their final third.
However, for someopne who plays so high up the pitch he is pretty timid trying to take on the opposition LB. He turns back or looks sideways to release the ball. I dont know why that is because he surely has the tools to do be more bold, but he's pretty conservative for me when he has to take the fight to go one to one. He has to be a lot braver than that. Even an ageing Coleman will still drive at a defence.
Of course his biggest drawback is his defensive work which remains awful.
He was rinsed by Sterling half a dozen times.
Look, defensively we need a couple of players slotting in for him to even accommodate him.
It's just not good enough. No wonder Godfrey's going off injured.
The fact remains that to play Patterson we have to cover his arse way too often because the lad simply cant or wont defend.
He's blowing for tugs trying to get back goal side today, which shocked me at this stage of the season...and he's 20 years of age.
That's BS. Itls a valid critique.
Anyone talking about 'great game' today is talking out of their arse IMO.
He did ok and no more...and for me he's not offered enough of a threat there today because he hasn't been adventurous enough.
Take the blinkers off.
It was a nothing performance mate. He did ok and no more.
Tell me how it was anything more than ok...
He owns nothing.
I'm prepared to say he has his strengths, but apparently it cant be said that he has obvious weaknesses.
This isn't the Kult across the park you know, we are allowed to criticise....or in this instance to just say it was a mediocre day for him.
...or maybe not, and we're descending to the level of the kult?
No, I've said he takes up a position way too far up the pitch and it leaves a couple of players behind him to fill in for him.

Dave's having a mare here. The fact remains that to play Patterson we have to cover his arse way too often because the lad simply cant or wont defend.

He's Scottish, so he's probably eating it.I’ve just seen this.

That's not what I said, but hey-ho.
If he's going to be up there he should be taking the game to the opposition. Today he took up an advanced position but was way too conservative when he had the ball.
His best effort was when he did what he does well: seize on a loose ball out of the opposition defence and bear down on their back four. But that was one fleeting moment.
If we play him we need much more punch up front than that from him, because we have to use up a lot of resources behind him covering for him being up the pitch.
Correct.
I said yesterday his strength is in intercepting loose balls played out from the back by opposition defenders which he can then gather and run at their back four, directly toward the box.
It struck me as alarming that he isn't taking on defenders. That's a minumum if you're playing wing back and not tasked with that much defensive work. Even a soon to be 34 year old Coleman still does that.
Maybe, maybe not.
He needs to add a good bit to his game to make it down here.
Pros: can pick a pass out from wide, physically up to challenging the opposition on the deck and in the air
Cons: positionally all at sea in his own final third, checks back too much when in possession going forward and fails to drive at defences
You're a cartoon poster.
If he's been handed a blank cheque to get forward then he has to carry a more potent threat to opposition defenders.
The fact he cant (and isn't being asked to) defend is already established.
I think you might have misread this thread mate. I've always said he offers something going forward in terms of crosses; and I've always said he's a liability as a defender.
That's called 'consistency'.
It underlines how poor you are to highlight deficiencies in one single performance.
Hickey is twice the player Patterson is.
Hardly.
I've seen him over 12 months playing for rangers, Scotland and now Everton.
Yes, I did start watching them when he was manager. As did a lot oif other people I suspect.
Well, I was watching them in the hope that Gerrard would fall on his face.
Our right side has been targteed just as it was last week.
It's ok getting up the touchline, but he has to get back a lot quciker than he does. The right hand CB is not sufficient to shut down attacks and the midfield is poor at providing protection for the CBs.
That's two teams who have exploited this nonsense system down the right now.
It's fantasy island stuff mate. 'Patts did well there'...no he didn't. We're getting targetted on his side and we're getting no attacking going down there either. It's Gordon dropping deep to get things going so far.
The switched the ball to the right side of our box where...surprise surprise...we were short.
He's a work in progress.Anyway, @davek putting aside the past and any views expressed, how do you feel the lad is doing ?…..
I don't know about a complete rethink from Frank, maybe he was just being realy clever and not exposing him to the pressure keg of our last few games of the season.…I think much of the comparisons were of them at a similar age.
As a big Coleman fan it really is a testament to Patterson how little PL game time he’s had, particularly as we know how much esteem Lampard has for Coleman.
it totally contradicts Lampard’s failure to play Patterson last season, even using Kenny ahead of him for a time when they were both available. That decision totally confused me & made me doubt Lampard but he seems to have had a total re-think.
We got there in the end.
