2024/25 Nathan Patterson

If the straight duke out isn’t between Patterson and Dixon by season’s end then something has gone very wrong, succession wise.

Its how long do you give Patterson really to be the starting right back mate, hes 23 now with a hand full of senior professional appearances and still needs experience, when he does play you can see why sometimes he doesn't. Unless he finishes the season with 15 games under his belt i think we can wave the white flag at him as a potential full time successor, he can be a squad option. Hes at an age now were he isn't young potential anymore.

Roman is too young, raw talent, but can pulled all over the place. Needs a couple of years of coaching.

The two older lads will fade as the season goes on and wont be here going forward.

So its looking like we need to invest, unless Nathan can do the unexpected.

It would be a huge pity to wave the white flag at him - as full tilt i think he could be a player - i saw something in that mini run under Lampard, but tie is precious for players of his profile and the game can quickly pass you by.

…I know it was a serious injury last season but it’s been very quiet on the Stan Mills front, he’s been out for a very long time. I no longer think he’s going to be considered a RB option even if I do think he’s got all the ammunition to give it a go in that position.

He's a midfielder. He was never really an option at right back.

….so was Tony Hibbert until he moved into the first team.

Mills looks just below top level for a midfielder but he’s a terrific athlete (his brother is an Olympic GB distance runner), got ideal size and mobility, offers a genuine attacking threat and is feisty like his Dad.

Some of the best full-backs in history were converted, I thought Mills was an ideal candidate, just as I recommended Hibbert as a FB to a lower league manager when he was a CM in the FA Youth Cup winning team.

Let’s have it right. He doesn’t like Patterson because he is awful. I have seen him out of position absolutely loads of times when he plays. He is more of a liability than Coleman or even Young. Doesn’t matter if he’s younger and likes to go forward or not. He cannot defend and constantly gets caught. He would be the first player out of the door if I was the boss. Simply not good enough for the Premier League.

Hopefully we can spend in January because right back and left back are priority positions. Couldn't care how many right backs we have until the end of the season. Fill them two positions up with competent players and get Branthwaite back in the team with a run of games and we would be a completely different side.

He's obviously fit to play. So Dyche waffling yesterday about him having a long way still to come back tells you all you need to know.

I've said it for a while now: get him fit enough to sell. It's now gone beyond "a loan deal to hand him experience and get him some game smarts". That ship has sailed.

I just hope the £12M paid isn't a complete write off.

Needs a run in the team at RB with Young moving to LB. Patterson is quick and will look to overlap. He’s struggled here but it’s about time we have him a go.
