2024/25 Nathan Patterson

It's called zonal marking Dave, that's what Dyche employs, our full backs always tuck in. Patterson had a poor game but you'll see us concede a lot of goals like this.
It's not part of any system of marking to run forward when you're second favourite to challenge for a ball, lose that challenge and leave the rest of the defence exposed.

...oh, and then he jogs back to the far post where he should be mopping up a shot passed into the net from the edge of the area.

Yes, it is. If Patterson stays in position that forward peeling off is doubled up on and finds it impossible to pick a pass out.

Patterson took Semenyo because Tarkowski wasn't going for it, Tarkowski dropped back to take the winger. Cross had a back turned to it, Mykolenko was nowhere to be seen, Branthwaite didn't fancy it.

You can't highlight one mistake and ignore 3 others. You're being pathetic as per.

Oh I agree, but Myko and Coleman have done this plenty in the past too, Young hangs out there and generally does well but also can get skinned and end up giving a yellow card being exposed on his own. Our defense gives up this space regularly and it's down to coaching as much as poor players.

Brilliant effort at deflection and obfuscation here.

No. Just no.

Why on earth would our CB be over there taking that header on?

Ha Ha Ha.

Completely 'kin hopeless.

Where's the deflection?

I said he'd made a mistake?

I know you can't usually read but c'mon now.

And why would Tarkowski go up for a defensive header against their attacker? I wonder why.

Three managers have run the rule over this lad and found him wanting.

Chicken with no head is about the fairest way to describe him.

The debate is over.

You're not that thick...so I'll put that down to more deflection.

I think the words you're looking for here is "I'm sorry. I and others have got it completely wrong about this player. He's tripe."

The moment we lost yesterday.

Any halfways decent FB stands off this hoofed ball forward. Patterson is the fool who rushes in where angels fear to tread...

Zero positional awareness. It's the reason why no manager has ever trusted him enough to make him a starter...and never will.

This shows clearly he's only had prior experience is in a slower poorer league. He has to take a step back to learn the game again. I really hope he can do that and knuckle down. Good luck to him.

The ones going to bat for him must be the ones who had the good fortune of not seeing his roasting of a lifetime yesterday. Quite like his play there is no defence for it

The mistake was made a few seconds earlier, he did not hold the defensive line. He was a good few yards behind the defensive line playing everyone onside.

Yeah hard to disagree with that. Personally I think Roman Dixon has more about him and we should have been developing him this season. Above all else he's got blistering pace which none of our other defenders have.

Pointless answering mate, their goal was a catalogue of errors from us. Patterson too easily beaten, Mykolenko giving their player all the time in the World to pick his spot and Branthwaite ducking under it, whether that was him thinking it was going wide we will never know. This is my last post in this thread, for me it's never been about football, it's sadly gone beyond that.
Sadly correct. Further evidence humans and even some Everton fans have stopped evolving and now devolving.

Challenging for a header ???? Deary me.

Think you need to look at the other FB .

It's an utter disgrace we never saw him try and find his feet inn this team. That lad looks to have everything required.
