2024/25 Nathan Patterson

If we had an actual holding midfielder. Like the days we had Barry. When a full back went up, he would shift across to cover the space they left. For all the harrying that Gueye does, he isn’t a true DM that holds the space.

Agreed. Gueye has always been a CDM who likes to step out of position, go beyond the ball and pressure the space. Often leaves a lot of gaps behind him

I also think if you are playing a flat(ish) three in the middle then either of the 8s can cover as a nominal full back

Hate to say it but the sort of thing a Milner or a Henderson did when Trent went forward under Klippity

Probably get stick for this but thought he was bang average tonight. Hopefully will improve if given a run.
I thought similar. He doesn't look to get forward but I think defensively he looks suspect.

But the lack of game time does nothing for him in this respect. I'd love to see him drive on and hold down that postponed. He is young, athletic and could solve that postion for years.

My main criticism last night I think he and Armstrong got away with a couple of pretty nasty challenges last night. I'm all for grit and fight but red cards take you out of games. You have to choose your battles.

Was it the one where he clattered the guy off the pitch? Was that not just a bit of tit for tat as they had just done similar to him?

He went in with a slide that went through the man if I'm not mistaken. In the league the officials are looking to hand cards out like candy and it doesn't always matter if you win the ball first. Just have to pick your battles and make sure you win them.

Nah, there was a challenge in the first half where he made a bit of a lunge at the ball and seemed to have caught the P/boro player, winced a bit when I saw it but ref deemed it ok.
Looked far more relaxed with Dyche gone and being allowed to play in a set-up that suits his strengths, hopefully Moyes will use him properly and allow him to develop into the player that his early potential promised.

Must have missed that challenge. There was a few tasty challenges in the game that just got let go that wouldn’t in the PL.

I think mangala could be a solid holiding playmaker in the barry mold hes not quick but he's very good at positioning himself and the times he does get beat it's because he's further up the pitch , I think he's got the technical skills on the ball and passing too

We need a left wingback as Myko ok when playing as a back four and he has to man mark. Has done well in the past again saka and Salah in that role. Going forward he is poor so not suited to being a wing back. if we can get this it will suit Paterson playing the same role on the right and he will hopefully improve . Needs to be a bit sharper defensively but can see Moyes getting him up a few levels.
