NBA 2024 Season

There’s another logical explanation. When they re-evaluated Luka’s calf, they found something really bad and thought it could turn into another Kawhi Leonard or Joel Embiid situation where he’s just never healthy. So instead of paying supermax money to a sick note, they sold him real quick to a dumb team (which the Lakers count as these days) before everyone found out.

Luka has type II diabetes? He has some rare cancer? I don’t know that you can know a disease state and not disclose.

No, more like maybe they found out his calf has permanent damage and he won’t be able to play the same way again. The Lakers are dumb enough to overlook that just to sell jerseys and grab ratings.

Ok, there’s a non-zero chance that’s real but even then you add Reaves and another 1st in the deal. This is the trade a child makes when playing a complex board game for the first time. And when Harrison finally gets fired he’ll never work another NBA front office job again.

The Mavericks are my favorite sports team ever. My dad and I have had partial season tickets going back to 1999. We just got off the phone and agreed that we're pretty sure this is our last year. So done with this franchise. The ownership is garbage now since Cuban sold the team and I just can't make sense of this trade.

Speculation is they may try to move the team to Vegas. I honestly wouldn't even care at this point.

I’m a Lakers fan and really like AD. But he is a bit of a sick note too. Seems like a trade that is way in LA’s favour. Upside is huge if it works out

I follow the NBA and have for a long time but one thing I will never understand is that these deals are done with basically no one being informed. Sounds like neither coach, any of the players had any idea it was happening.

Oh it’s still a bad deal and a PR/marketing catastrophe. Miriam Adelson is a horrible woman and I’m howling at her selling a basketball Galactico for 40 cents on the dollar to own the libs or whatever. But I bet Luka is crocked.

Can’t blame her. This is Nico thinking he’s the smartest guy in the room only to soon be disappointed.

I still find it wild how players can get traded and have no say in the matter even though they are still under contract.

Their contracts are valid across the league. Doesn’t matter which team is paying. Endorsements are direct to player so no team has a say in these. Some contracts have some sort of restriction and this varies by contract or league but otherwise players have little control. At least NBA contracts are fully guaranteed and must be paid out. NFL contracts can often be canceled with no penalty to the team.
