Confirmed Signing Neal Maupay

It's really not as easy as that though is it.

Budget, availablity, chances of the signing being good, do they want to come, the price, wages

Don't change something to suit a narrative

He rejected a contract, Brighton want him to stay

He's a proven premier League goalscorer, only 26.
Welbeck has replaced him in the side and that has happened regardless of his contract situation.

….I’m ok with Maupay if it’s who Thelwell/Lampard want, but I wonder why he wasn’t available 6 weeks ago when we desperately needed a striker.
A strange one, maybe to do with the Gordon situation and we were waiting to see what level of player we could bring in depending on funds.

A sensible signing for the amount of money - hard worker and ~10 goals will be a great help... could do with another player to contribute that amount. There does seem to be a real lack of quality strikers available at the moment without taking a huge gamble on a striker from a foreign league.

.
Since you asked, he has started 84 of the 111 games he could have started across 3 seasons.

He has played twice on the left in all of that and scored twice. 101 times through the middle with 25 goals.

Danny Wellbeck has 16 goals for England in 42 caps and has won 2 titles, 2 FA cups, 2 League cups and a Champions League. Of course he is a better striker but he has had glass legs for most of his career. He just happens to have had a run since April where he has stayed fit, hence Maupay only starting 1 of the last 11 games he could for Brighton.
Indeed. Also Brighton brought in Undav in the summer who is ahead of Maupay now.

Yep. At some point you have to break off the pursuit of your top targets and move down the list.

The skill is choosing that moment, to give yourselves the maximum chance of landing your top target before events dictate you have to move on.
Like we have with Gueye?! What you're saying is correct, I just don't have confidence that skill and discipline exist at Everton and that there was a list with 5 names where Maupay was number 5 and we've exercised all possible avenues to recruit the other higher options. I just can't buy that and seems he's landed as the current target some other way. In any event I would rather have him than not at this stage if we can just get it done

This one doesn’t bother me not as much as it would have in the past. We are actually desperate just to get someone in right now, I remember when we bought gueye and nobody was arsed because we had expensive flashy signings and look how that one turned out
