If he played with a big target man alongside him he'd thrive. I do wonder how we'll get the best out of this lad on the basis of watching that game.

Maybe a Mersyside Derby is not the one to judge him on, but the game passed him by.

Let’s judge him vs West Ham. I think that will be enough time to bed in. I loved his endeavour and his snide today.

Even if his finishing is turgid it’s amazing how much of a difference it is having someone who knows how to play in the CF role properly.

Disapointed he didnt take that chance, just had to anything other than he did. Could have been an instant hero and bought himself loads of times with the supporters.

Thought he looked okay though, better than Rondon.

Should've scored but we knew before we signed him that his finishing is definitely not his best attribute. Covered a hell of a lot of ground and had some decent link-up play.

Thought he did well overall, probably needs a couple of games and a few more training sessions to get himself on the same wavelength as our other forwards. Think he'll ultimately prove to be a good signing.

Exactly. Which is why it was a disatser not getting another forward in.
I'm not sure it was a disaster, but I wish we had brought another forward in. Ironically, I think Rondon, around 5 years ago would've worked really well with Maupay.

The fella we seemed to want from Russia would've fit the mold.

I do like what Maupay gives us though. He allows us to press effectively and gives us mobility and hold up we've been missing with either Rondon or Gray/Gordon.

Yes, that's good. But we need a goal scorer.

i know that finishing is largely considered a natural quality but is it not out of the question to propose that his may actually improve given adequate training?
Lampard has already worked miracles with Iwobi

Said it a few times but I think we've looked at what Brighton, Wolves and Newcastle did last year and have realised that our defence was the difference between finishing 9th and 16th.

We look much harder to beat and have added steel and legs in midfield and experienced CBs.

We're a work in progress and we needed lots of areas strengthened over the summer. Goalscorers are hard to find and usually expensive. I think we'll be adding one in Jan.
