2023/24 Neal Maupay

He played like they'd just found a lump in an Everton shirt on a local building site. Made Niasse not look raw. The more I remember Angell's fleeting minutes, the better Maupay becomes.

Neville Southall once said the lads attitude was always spot on, he just wasn’t good enough and if some of the other players had Brett’s attitude they would of been far better players

….I think it was @LeeCarsley said something along the lines of ‘the only thing wrong with Maupay’s performance was his finishing, everything else he did was fine’;

A bit like saying "everything Neal maupay does is exceptional... Except being a footballer".

He failed every test yesterday and if that doesn't spell the end of his time here, we are in for another grim season.

The club should do everything they can to sell him. There will be limited interest but it's clear that he is nowhere near good enough and the fan base haven't taken to him at all.

Maupay is a hundred times better than Angel, anyone who had the displeasure to live through that period would have known what real torturous forward play was. However as a team others would l chip in with goals so it didn't feel as bad as now.

This is not particularly aimed just for Maupay but we have to back our players until they are gone whether we want them here or not and give them the encouragement that the next time they take to the pitch they score. By making it a huge thing out of it you get this self perpetual reality where they won't score as they are so on edge nothing comes off. The situation was broken with Maupay last year and for all parties it would have been good to move on, however we need to look at why forwards struggle here so much when at other clubs they can hit the kind of numbers we require.

I've just read that.
It's pretty damming and shows what we all knew beforehand.

It's been a disaster all round from the scouting & recruitment right up to the manager selecting him to play as our front line striker in a very easily winnable game.

In short the lad is and never will be good enough , I dont agree with the slagging off & abuse but it's clearly best if the lad is shipped out ASAP.

What a sorry state.

Forwards don't struggle at everton. Only crap ones do. I can count on one hand the amount of decent strikers we've had over the last 30 years.

I don't even count Rooney as he was a kid when we sold him and an old man when he returned.

Lukaku and yakubu are the only I think we're truly good strikers.

No club will bare his wages - you would struggle to sell him for 50p - Dobbin should have been given a run out at no 9 - not on the left wing when he came on - two sitters missed by Maupay ...

He needs to be replaced without a doubt but I can't have a pop at him for not trying or hiding in games. If he was any good, or had more confidence, he would have got 3 yesterday but 1 goal in 40 odd games says it all.
I have to admit my heart sank when I seen he was starting yesterday, but I always support every player when they cross the white line irrespective of form. He should have bagged a brace yesterday just like he should have bagged a brace against them in the April fixture, I was willing for him to get on the scoresheet just to give him some confidence in front of goal. I don't think he will be going anywhere but I do think he will be a bench warmer he will play few cameos this campaign which will be ok if we get the right personnel in.

On BBC there's something about how Muapay received "abuse" on social media. Was it "abuse" or just criticism?? I haven't seen it as yet. If it's nasty then that's unacceptable but if it's criticizing his performance then he's got to suck it up

I totally agree what is the point of hammering someone is already struggling in front of goal. But he has got to mentally keep backing himself Regardless of what has happened in the past. It’s tough but he’s a highly paid professional.

Some of the stuff I've seen by our supposed supporters has been really disgusting.

I thought he was just unlucky yesterday. If he plays like that, goals wil lcome.
