feel he was worth a new 18month contract with us but perhaps moyes didn't so thank you and good bye

good bye? erm... you've lost me.

anyways, he was on big money at everton. with players coming back from injury and the coleman monster coming through, perhaps the club thought we could cut loose.

i still think he was worth hanging on to.

Dear Lord,

I read through this entire thread and you'd think that Lucas Neill was the thread that was keeping Everton in the Premier League.

Get a grip lads.

He played well for us but this was absolutely good business. And while a few folks took issue with a post earlier which listed players that could/would fill in and that were coming back, that post was purely based on fact whether you liked it or not.

Distin's coming back.
Yobo's coming back (and I'd have Yobo over Neill all day long)
Jags is coming back

We have Neville and Hibbert who can do a job there (or have you not been watching Everton this season.)

Neill did fine. He's gone.

Deal with it and recognize it for what it is. A good deal for him and a good deal for Everton, regardless of whether Moyes is bringing someone else in. Moyes isn't selling him unless he has cover.

Distin's just returning and is probably going to be rushed back, Yobo is in Africa, Jagielka hasn't even started full training yet and is returning from a serious injury and Heitinga can't even play in Europe.

And anyone who thinks Hibbert and Neville are capable of playing there really needs to watch the games they where involved in again. Have a look at the Sigma game and see how many times they got behind us and how unbalanced we looked. Have a look at the Benfica game and even the Spurs game in Hibbert's case, even the experienced centre backs can't keep it together when they are playing alongside a fullback at centre back, it completely unbalances us.

Both players did an admirable job considering there lack of experience in the position, but if you where looking at them as centre backs, they'd have low marks. They aren't options, they are put them in when we've got nothing and hope for the best.

Lucas Neill versatility also comes into it, he was very capable in two different positions. And with the Europa League and our injury problems, that's been very useful and would have been for most of the season. Far more valuable to us than just under one million, something that buys you **** all in today's market and will probably disappear into thin air whilst we loan a centre back and then can't sign him in the summer because we've got no money. Same old, same old really.

And tell me who's a more complete fullback than Lucas Neill at the club? Who has his mixture of natural ability, aerial strength and defensive qualities? It could easily be argued he's the best right back (in contention for a place) at the club. He's certainly a 'footballer' and that's the most disappointing part, it gives limited, yes limited players like Hibbert ANOTHER chance to make the position his own.

There are lots of reasons why this deal could be viewed as a poor deal to be honest, and I could go on and on. But I won't, my post is already far too long. :D

it's the opposite to hello

Moyes on Neill:

"I wouldn't be optimistic about replacing anybody because I think it's a difficult market," Moyes said.

"I certainly won't talk about players at other clubs because that's not the right thing to do, but I wouldn't be confident that we would be able to get a replacement in.

"It could leave us a gap, certainly in the short term. Joseph Yobo could be back in a couple of weeks time and Phil Jagielka's not too far away on the horizon, but maybe in the short term it may leave me short. But over the piece, I think if I get over the next couple of weeks then I think I would be okay."

Brilliant.

Love you Moyes really I do....

But you can **** off with that.

It doesn't really even sound like moyes wants to sell him. I wouldn't be surprised if kenwright has gone over myes head on this one.
