Nelson Dock

The ground won't be getting expanded in our lifetime.

I disagree.

You think they are gonna stick a stand on top of the roof?

There will be talk, bluster, but nothing will ever happen, only way the capacity is increased is if there are ever wide scale changes to the safe standing.
Well if you’re excluding any kind of remodelling then no, obviously.

It wouldn’t be cheap, and it wouldn’t be as easy as at other stadia - but it’s not completely out of the question as you suggest.

Stadium expansions are an almost permanent feature of the league. There’s always at least one happening - and there are plenty in various stages of planning including Villa, Forest, Wolves, Fulham, Palace...

I’m not saying it’s definitely going to happen, but totally ruling it out under ambitious new owners actively looking to develop doesn’t make sense to me.

Thats fine.

Im saying it wont happen in my lifetime.

Large portions of this fanbase cant or wont accept why the capacity is so "low" and will keep searching for those extra few inches.

Happy to be proven wrong before I shuffle off this world.

Okay, that’s fair enough. I’ve no idea how old you are - but in fairness you said “our” lifetime - which is effectively permanently as far as the forum is concerned!

Well, I meant me and Matty.

I probably wont lost that long, truth be told, but Matty has about 30-40 years left by my reckoning.

Ultimately it boils down to how successful we are, and how popular Premier League football remains.

If both go our way, I think there’s every chance we’d see expansion in the 2030s.

For all football is a million miles away from where it was in the 80s, that $5 billion valuation on the Boston Celtics shows that a truly global sports league like the Premier League has headroom for more investment and value. Even if it already seems unimaginably wealthy.

But I take the point about fans getting ahead of themselves and that’s totally fair.

I’m more than happy for us all to bask in the glory of a superb new 53,000 seat stadium without needing to think about expanding it.
