Player Valuation: £60m
During the window anytime there was mention of Everton the gross amount spent by the club on transfers was always mentioned and how that money was wasted.
None of us could argue about that but there never seems to be a balanced discussion where it is also pointed out that we recouped about 280m from player sales in the same period which gives a net spend in the region of about 200m.... still a huge sum, some incredibly bad buys, some shocking transfer decisions but not as wasteful as the media would like to make it out to be.

Ive been saying this for ages.

Yes we have made bad signings.....but this £500 figure makes a great headline.

Since Moshiri arrived. Figures from transfermarkt so not the most accurate at times.

Agree. I think I‘ve seen somewhere a net spend £200 -£240mill. Given that Moshiri has been onboard for 6 years so say 10 or 12 transfer windows , it does put into perspective how much he’s spent I.e. £20-24 mill say per window. Without him we would still have spent regularly in each window , perhaps not as much but certainly over £100 mill in 6 years. So in reality all thats happened is that we’ve spent a bit more than usual on dross with Moshiri’s money.

Yeah we sold Lukaku Stones Gueye Barkley in that period. There’s at least 190 mill before we even get into any other sales. There’s also figures being used for players incoming who won’t have got anywhere near the add on clauses. I doubt Richarlison or Siggurdson triggered some of theirs if any were linked to European qualification.

It’s just another excuse for the media to bash Everton. I’d wager the net spend is probably something like an average of 40 -50 mill a year which is less than the top 6 spend on one player sometimes.

What they also fail to take into account is the top 6 hoarded a lot of talent by spending money years ago. Just because they’re now trading that talent effectively and bragging about their low net spends doesn’t mean they’re somehow oh so virtuous. It still took huge cash injections at some point in order for them to put those squads together.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but a good portion of our net spend includes TV money, no? So this constant hyperbole of how Moshiri has spent 500 trillion ain’t quite right.

When calculating his expenditure on the club people seem to include the purchase of his shares and paying off the debt present when he bought the club, nobody seems to mention this with other clubs. Nobody harps on about how much Kroenke has paid for his Arsenal shares, he paid 550 million just to buy Usmanov’s 30% stake when he was already in control of Arsenal.

I don't think anyone does this tbh.

The difficulties are two fold - bad investments - literally no resale value on anyone we bought - in fact we cant give them away & a horrific wage bill. Both things significantly contributing to our loss.

In a way the spend is irrelevant its what you do with what you spend/invest and the cost of keeping it.

If we spent 500 mill well and made a profit on all we bought/invested in wed be brewstered and able to afford our wage bill - sadly though.
