New DOF

You 100% need a DoF in modern football.

It just common sense init. How can anyone expect a manager to negotiate contracts and transfers, scout players, run the youth setup from the top down all while coaching the team, analysing the opposition game to game, devising tactics and giving regular press interviews.

It's amazing in retrospect how a manager like Moyes did it as well as he did as we moved into the modern era.

I'm not convinced we need a DOF if we have a competent experienced manager in the role

However, if Dunc, Rooney or Lampard are the front runners for the managers gig then I think having a DOF to help them is a wise idea for the time being

Brighton are a well run club, so getting Ashworth in would seem to be a good appointment. As others have said though, it's not just giving him the job he has to also be allowed to do the job

Yeah there's still an old school of managers out there that would be good appointments, or some German managers who can also do both.

Still though, us embracing the DoF model is inevitable as the game moves on. We should just move with times ASAP but that requires Moshiri accepting he should not bypass a DoF or him selling up to someone else who will respect the model.

Because Moyes was here many years. Managers last, what, 2 seasons now? You cannot put a different man in control every 2 years.

we don’t have the time for that
What is the risk? I by no means think this club is too big to go down, but I also think its important to be objective based on the odds and injuries that have taken place over the season. Our current odds are at 12% to go down.

Conflate that likelihood with a manager appointee working longterm, when he was hired while the board was in the midst of an internal review, with backroom staff having left beyond just Benitez over the last 2 months, and no Director of Football in place. The club has too and can afford to be diligent in establishing a hierarchy and hopefully a DoF prior to the summer. If we make a longterm hire before those things are in place we are simply repeating history (the definition of insanity) when he had an 88% chance of not needing too.

the risk is going down mate. you can’t wait for a dof then get a manager when results are needed

Everywhere Moyes has been he has had an extensive and expensively assembled backroom team that's why. West Ham have some of the best rated coaches and backroom team going. Game has changed in recent years and managers/head coaches simply don't have the time for off field stuff due to the amount of games, even more so if a team is playing in Europe. Gone are the days when managers could just nip off mid week to watch a player in a match somewhere.

Most clubs have had a DOF for many years but very often operating under a different title.
No manager, in the modern game has the time to manage, scout and administrate,

Regardless of the title given the person should be judged by their body of work and unfortunately our DOF was a failure and RB did us a favour by helping remove him from the club. Before he then removed himself.

We have been linked with Dan Ashworth and also the return of Tim Cahill in an executive role, so it looks as if the managerial structure of the club is being tweaked .
I hope Moshiri may have learned his lesson and now wants to pass the running of the club to those who know how to do so.
