New DOF

We had a DoF. Moshiri continually undermined him, then binned him off in favour of giving control to the manager and then binned the manager.

Any DoF who elects to be part of this utter mess of a setup clearly lacks the kind of judgement needed to be a good DoF.

Exactly, we aren't getting a good or smart DoF while Moshiri is sticking his oar in.

There were some rumblings recently that Ashworth was seriously considering joining Newcastle. If true that we might be after him, would be an interesting case study as the jobs would end up being so different. He seems like the type that would prefer to have a remit to build and develop a young team (which we are being partially forced into due to careless spending) rather than having an open checkbook to attract high profile signings.

As others have said, this is all moot unless Moshiri has a come-to-god moment and adopts some self reflection, but I would not bet on it.

Michael Emenalo is another interesting name. He supposedly turned down Newcastle recently. If they are willing to relinquish control, I could see Moshiri and Usamov being interested based on how he helped build Chelsea and how well he worked with Abramovich.

There's quite a void at Everton with no Sporting Director, no manager, no Head of Recruitment, no Scouting Manager and no Medical Director. Benitez was given a lot of control, only to be sacked a few weeks later.

More so it shows how every club is ran differently and "success" from one club isn't the same as the other.

Potterball wouldn't last 5 minutes with our fans neither would most young managers in fairness.

The atmosphere around the club is toxic.

I would give their DOF a go but then who's working under him? Whats the relationship going to be like between Ashworth and BK / Moshiri.

So many variables other than "that small club Brighton are in the top half and haven't pished £500 million on crap so lets raid em for their backroom staff".
Is a vital we bring in a dof who can lead the cluh going forward. Seems to be highly rated the relationship i would like to see with kenwright/moshiri is basically that us fans dont see much from them. Ashworth unlinke brands need to have control over the club something which brands does not seem to have. Hopefully is a sign we can add more staff

Unless the culture within the club is actually reformed or challenged i cant forsee even a highly skilled DOF being successful. Too many unqualified entities with their own agendas meddling about that would inevitably subvert the DOF's authority. Like for example if we attained this dude from Brighton would he have full reign in revamping the academy or would Bill restrict him from replacing unsworth and the other legacy hires?

Go get Ashworth and target the key people he works with and any others he wants.

As I said yesterday and have just seen @Eggs had written the same thing, the manager doesnt need to be Potter.

As long as the correct infrastructure and personnel are in place then a younger, dynamic manager who followed the ethos of the DOF and past club culture would be ideal.

I follow an american sports team that really is just the spitting image of Everton. Incredible fan base, historic success, but for decades now has been a sad shell of their past self with an owner saying so many good things, but absolutely unwilling to step aside and just hire someone to run the team. Fans clamor for it. Owner every 3-4 years says he will. Hires someone for "the role" and then undermines them, signs players they dont want from time to time, and no one actually knows whos making decisions. And the team languishes.

A team must have a good DOF who is in charge of ALL aspects of the organization, unless the owner/board is so astute(which is rare) that they can handle that. Relying on a manager for that is insane, because now you see the vacuum left when they leave, even when they were a bad manager. When all of the top teams do things one way, you best stand up and take notice and try and copy that. With a top DOF, everything else will fall into place over time, but it relies on the DOF actually having power and the owner not interfering. Any undermining of their authority destroys the whole structure.

…..hadn’t heard that we were after a DoF and have never heard of the Brighton DoF but weirdly as soon as I saw the thread title, I thought I’d like us to get the bloke from Brighton.

Indeed, one of my concerns about Potter is he’s doing a good job because of their DoF.

Brighton knocked City out of the FA Youth Cup this week which reinforced my view he must know his stuff.

Key is, he comes in with the power of a DoF. Despite what was said by the Rafatonians, Benitez didn’t have ‘total power’. Our DoF needs that level of control, he needs to work closely with the Manager so they are on the same page. A Rooney or Lampard appointment will need a DoF.

Personally delighted if this happens.
Agree with that eggs.

Pointless having any DoF if Moshiri middles
