Egil Olsen
Player Valuation: £8m
To me, this is starting to get absurd. When Brands started working, he often talked about expansive and modern football (imprecise term, I know). He went on to talk about the importance of integrating academy players into the first team, and buying players who were preferably aged 26-20 years. We had to get rid of older and expensive players, and not invest expensively in players who were older than 26 years.
Then one decides to hire a Hollywood coach, and who is as far away from these principles as possible. Ancelotti does not play that type of football, is largely uninterested in academy players, and prefers experienced players. We bring in players like JR, Allan and AD. Which is contrary to the original thinking.
After Ancelotti ran as fast as he could to get away, I thought we might have learned and stuck to the original plan. That is, we had gone for coach types like Rodgers, Potter, etc. It is not certain it would have been a success, but then we can replace the manager with a similar manager with the same philosophy. Then the club gets continuity. Some believe continuity is with the manager, but it is the overall plan of the club that is responsible for this. Just like players, managers can be replaced.
Instead, we are linked to managers like Nuno and Rafael. To me, this club seems to be in serious trouble. It lacks leadership, professionalism and organization. If this club is ever to become a top club again, the cleaning job at the top must be done first.
