Managers should be lining up in droves for the opportunity to manage us. Nowhere else can you finish consistently 12th or be sacked and yet still expect to land a top, top job afterwards

We are the good luck Chuck of football teams. Fail abysmally with us and your reward will be a top job at a European superpower or international team posting.

I think fans actually overestimate this. Nobody knows that Everton have "bad eggs" in the squad. Did this squad overperform or underperform relative to their abilities and those of other teams last season?

The "bad egg" idea seems to be based on the assumption that several managers have failed with most of the same group of players, so it must be the players.

That is flawed logic. The squad needs improvement to reach the top four, that is no doubt. But that does not mean we have lazy or unprofessional players.

In answer to the question "What are other managers going to do that Carlo couldn't?", Potter or any other coach are likely to have a different approach to Carlo.

It is not like "Carlo has had the most experience and the most success so his way is the right way" because evidently that is not true.

CA is great at setting a team up tactically but seemingly had a more relaxed approach to training, maybe the next coach will be a strict disciplinarian, maybe they will be in between the two. Maybe they will be a better communicator than Carlo, who knows.

A very interesting take this mate. Would be interested in reading more paragraphs in the future.

It's a tricky situation as we know with such a mishmash of players. Granted, my knowledge of managers around the globe isn't great so there are probably many a credible candidate, but I do keep thinking Nuno would make sense.
By addressing the areas we were hoping to anyway (RB and RW), I could see his preferred systems working for us in the short term. Prem exp, decent football, no club and a point point prove.

Big risk though mate - thats the worry there are a lot of good managers in Europe/rest of world likes of Ten Hag and Favre but I dont know if they have what it takes in terms of English football.

Thats why for me I would prefer a manager with PL experience. If we couldnt get one of the big bhoys like Conte/Poch/Biesla then for me whilst underwhelming Nuno wouldn't be the worst choice in the world as took Wolves to 2x 7th place finishes and 2x cup semi finals in 3 seasons and you could argue taking Jimenez/Jota out the team has done him over this season but I dont think he would be successful at the club in terms of aiming for trophies.

The problem I've got is I dont think many managers could win a trophy at Everton the rot is far deeper than just the manager and players for me - there has to be changes at the top of the club trickling down before we become a serious outfit imo.
Conte is a pipe dream

Poch is staying at PSG

Bielsa - sorry he’s too much of a nut-job

I hear ya about the PL experience however I don’t think it’s really that relevant. I see it more as a sound bite without any real substance.

We need a defined style of play then we need to recruit the players to play that s system.

In order to get the players and have them play the system they have to buy into the ethos and totally believe in their coach.

Gallardo can bring that in bucketloads - he’s a born winner with a unique style of play. His players and fans worship him.

He can bring that all to us. If we go after him I’m sure we can get him

Maybe we make too big a deal out of the manager effect in the PL, look at the european clubs, even the successful ones, and who they've hired.
Barca - Koeman, Setien? Valverde? Enrique, Martino? Vilanova?
Bayern - Nagelsmann, Flick? Kovac? Heynckes
Inter - Conte, Spaletti? Vecchi? Pioli? Vecchi again, De Boer
AC - Piolo? Giampaolo? Gattuso! Montella!

These clubs dont seem to be scrambling after £10m/yr coaches, but they also seem to hire/fire regularly.
The days of a 5/10 year manager are gone and it needs to be club strategy first and manager brought in to manage that strategy.

More emphasis on Everton less on manager and to a degree player cv's.

Whats your thoughts on Potter, Eggsy?

I'm ambivalent, but it's strange he's not even linked. Seems like a thing that press would pick out.

....I admit to not having a clue, I think lots of this is down to the right man in the right place at the right time. If it was easy finding that man then we’d have done it by now.

I’m fine with Potter, I don’t know if he’d be the right appointment but I’d actually prefer somebody ambitious. The next Ancelotti rather than Ancelotti. They all carry risk.
