If (admittedly dodgy, red echo etc!), reports over the weekend “reporting” that it is Usmanov pushing for the Benitez appointment are in any way believable, do we think it’s likely that Usmanov is someone who would cave in to fan protests?

Following on from that - if Usmanov turned round in a fit of pique and said no more sponsorship/ money from USM or any of his companies unless Benitez is appointed where does that leave us, and would it change opinions on the Benitez stuff?
No, not from me anyway.

What has happened to Eddie Howe? A couple of years ago, was talked about as future England Boss. Took Bournemouth from minus 17 points with no money, in league 1 to the Premier. Including Championship winners. Then I think did pretty well with a tiny club, to stay there for a few seasons. Lets be honest Bournemouth were never going stay up forever. I know they went down but you can say he has gained experience from that as well.
Now he seems unemployable. Not saying he is right for us, but you'd think Championship and even maybe bottom half Premier league clubs would be wanting him.
Will get Brighton job when Potter leaves for Spurs probably.

Yeah that was odd, it was his to take. I think he was a bit overawed with the size of the job... He wouldn't last a week at a baying Goodison if what I just wrote had any semblance of truth.
I don’t think he’s helped by the fact that he failed dismally in his brief spell away from Bournemouth. Once he soiled the bed there, finally, it looks like he’s bottled it completely.

I'm a believer in forgive and forget, so would be sound with Benitez if he'd actually done anything of note in the last few years.

But, he hasn't and let's be honest, a huge chunk of our fanbase still absolutely despise the bloke.

So we're in a position where we don't know how he's kept up with the modern game, huge questions over his desire to achieve things with the club and a fanbase who will be too split to give it time to play out.

Really dense appointment from the board if this happens.

I think we have kicked on from being nailed on certainties for the drop in 13/14 to probably ok for the last few seasons in a league that gets tougher and more unbalanced year on year. Favre would be a step up in class for us whilst I see him being a bit meh for Everton given his actual record. Favre’s belief in bringing youngsters through sits well with our establishing strategy of investing heavily in the academy, so that at least would be joined up.

Yes. I mean Palace are interesting as you've kind of stayed quite static in performance level, (the mid to high 40's in terms of points) but the amount required to stay up has got less and less.

I know Palace have put a lot of money into their academy and that would be a natural fit for Favre. He wouldn't be daunted by lots of older players leaving.

It's sort of what Everton have done ok on in the past too, though the pathways have become clogged of late but I would be happy with Favre for that reason too. The city has always been a decent recruiting ground for us and there aren't too many pro teams in and around the merseyside area. But we have almost moved away from it, which doesn't make a lot of sense.

I like Favre, he was very much in the 5 candidates I gave at the outset, but I also understand people's reticence too. I can imagine there wil be some mixed emotions from Palace, or not so much?
