It really is a sorry state of affairs when our Board think the best man to take us forward is despised by more than half the fan base. Footy is an entertainment business, you don't hire the panto villain to play leading man.
But a lot of the fanbase despises the chairman, and they know it, so I can see the board not caring what the fan base think, it's a us and them situation.

Besides its Moshiris money, and he will do what he likes.
Personally I'm dreading the next few days.

I think people are underestimating our fans.

If Benitez chooses to join our club he will get the full backing of us fans and will be given every chance to succeed. If we end up fighting relegation then obviously people will turn against him then and rightly so, but we fans will at least give him a chance.

We’re not kopites.
No coincidence your first post was encouraging people to look past Sammy Lee's RS past is it pal

100% this, we have to back him, we have no choice, IF it is him

this is almost the problem , this is why after 3 defeats we’ll end up with lads trading punches in the stands . It’s happened before on bad runs but with this fella it’ll happen in double quick time , some blues will back him and others will vehemently oppose the appointment meaning we’ve got a split . The ground can be somewhere that isn’t for the faint hearted at the best of times but this bloke , come on it’s a recipe for disaster.

Anyway - all this is proving why I don't want him to be appointed. The groundswell of opinion against Benitez means it's just almost certainly never going to work.

All I'm saying is I think he's a better manager than many people on here seem to think, and I think people's opinion of him is massively clouded by the ill-advised (but accurate) comments he made when managing our biggest rivals.

I have a sinking feeling that our owner is going to appoint him, and loads of our fans are going to create a toxic environment and it will go very badly wrong.

And here's my biggest fear - let's say this IS all about trying to stabilise the club ready for the new stadium. What happens if Moshiri gets so upset by the lack of support for his appointed manager that he just pulls the plug and walks away, leaving us in an even bigger mess?
Yes mate the 4th most successful team in England, founder members of the league and PL winning 9 titles is a SMALL CLUB.
He meant what he said. Non of this but but but I meant small team b/s he knew exactly what he was doing and saying.

AN NO HE WASNT RIGHT

Also he CANT PULL THE PLUG. As he owns shares so he will have to sell them to someone

I feel ya. They were never going to get punished severely . You only have to look at the media pushing the “you can’t punish the fans narrative”. It’s shameless and blatantly disingenuous however they know it will all simmer down in time and it’s business as usual as they say.
The reason they weren’t punished by ban was because the FA and PL want the next World Cup and they want UEFA backing.

My sentiments exactly.

Benitez has got a good pedigree and appointing him will really wind the reds up. Surely he’s a better bet than the likes of Potter, who’s only won 25% of his matches.

People have said he didn’t do much at Newcastle, but when he took over they were mid-table in the Championship and when he left they were an established PL team. The Toon Army fans were devastated when he left.
He relegated them mate
