Ok fair enough mate. I think in some ways we're on the same page. My ideal would be a younger coach who'd work with Brands and build something from the bottom up - a team with identity that's good to watch. Absolutely would love that.

But all I'd say on Benitez is I'm not sure he's quite as "anti-football" as you make out. I may end up being proven badly wrong on that. But it feels like he's being built up as some sort of Allardyce/Pulis/Dyche figure on here and I just don't think that's the case.
Well I'm glad to hear the first part mate.

But on the second, he is very similar to those managers. At most of the clubs he's been at, he has been able to work with players far above the standard those three have had. And he's done his best to undo the quality of some of the squads he's had with some very poor signings.

On a positive note when the FSW relegates because he's a football dinosaur with zero understanding of the modern game, maybe that will convince Moshiri to sell the team. Plus a promotion push would actually be interesting! Something this club hasn't been in two decades.

If this appointment actually happens , it will be an act of breathtaking stupidity.
It will totally divide the support, as it is already doing.
The match day atmosphere will become hostile and unpleasant from day one.
Of all the managers in the world , to pick the one manager guaranteed to cause the reaction we are witnessing is to display absolute contempt and utter disregard for the supporters.
Also what does it say about the man himself if he accepts the position?
If he comes here he not only enrages us he also angers the very people who have hitherto revered him and with whom he has always claimed a special affinity.
What kind of man throws that away for an easy commute? A self absorbed , mean spirited mercenary is what he will reveal himself to be in this event.
He doesn’t even come with the saving grace of coaching good football his style is outdated , tedious boreball.
If he comes here , he’s toast.

The reds on their various forums are absolutely fuming at the prospect of one of their greats joining us.

I’d take him in a heartbeat. He’s won La Liga twice with mediocre teams, as well as the FA Cup and the Champions League.

The “small team” jibe didn’t infuriate me as much as it did others. He was obviously referring to our underdog status. Don’t forget we’d just finished 17th.
My sentiments exactly.

Benitez has got a good pedigree and appointing him will really wind the reds up. Surely he’s a better bet than the likes of Potter, who’s only won 25% of his matches.

People have said he didn’t do much at Newcastle, but when he took over they were mid-table in the Championship and when he left they were an established PL team. The Toon Army fans were devastated when he left.

How many Blood Brothers tickets is the club worth these days?

We are like 2 months from supporters across England flexing their muscles and protesting leadership and Everton just wanted their turn to be tone deaf idiots and screw their fans

Neither Spurs or Palace who both lost their managers before us have announced replacements yet so not sure why some are having a meltdown about how only Everton could take this long to get a replacement.

When he took over Newcastle they were in the PL.
He relegated them.
Even his cheerleaders have to be economical with the truth , it seems.

Uhhh... No to most of what you said. No he didn't take over when Newcastle were in the championship, he took them down then stayed. This isn't going to wind up the reds, they're going to be laughing the entire time.
