No it wasn't. They had only just been promoted when he took over. His remit was to stay in the division.

They didn't even have an academy until Rafael got there. In fact they didn't even have a scouting network. That was part of Rafas job, to prepare for the future so they have a line of young talent coming through the ranks.
What are you having for tea?

genuinely find it hard to stomach Blues half defending him in any way!!

Im not saying that you want him and i can see your effort at striking balance but just why?
Myself i love coming on the forum when i have time and some of the posters are top notch and the laughs I've had made me look insane IN front of the wife but some of the OTT reaction on this particular subject has gone to far i believe are we going to rinse and repeat everything from the past 2 weeks.
Forums need to have balance and not people scared to put a point of view out without being labeled a kopite ,is getting the middle finger a term of endearment off some on here.
I understand the hatred from some against him and by all means have your say but lets try and keep it civil.and balanced, and again hes not my first choice

Whoever gets the Everton job needs to have money to spend or really they are at nothing.

I expect that what is being agreed now is the spending budgets, the management structure in the club in particular the role for Duncan, if any. The relationship between Brands and Benitez. These are the issues which determine how the club will be run during the term of the next manager.

I think at this stage there is little doubt it will be Benitez, the media have just stopped talking about Everton as I assume they are just waiting for the announcement.
I think that's a wild assumption to make, I think based on the lack of credible information he has never really been in the running. Nobody knows anything, i include the media in that

I don't want him - but I just find some of the arguments against him to be so short sighted.

He's actually a very successful coach who has a far better record than almost any manager we've ever appointed, and yet because he said some mean things about Everton once people are determined to paint him as some sort of failure. It just isn't true.
He has had some success, but there's very little in his CV that makes him seem like a good fit for us. I feel like Ancelotti walking was a great opportunity for us to reset and go in a different direction, and instead we're looking at basically appointing a poundland version of him and repeating the same mistakes all over again. He's not an awful manager and very few people have said he is, but him winning the CL 16 years ago really isn't particularly relevant when looking at what he can offer to a club like us today.

The thing that just absolutely boggles my mind the absolute hubris of the FSW even WANTING to manage here. Just what the ever loving hell makes him think he would do anything here except get a fat payday and vitriol from the off?

EVERYONE involved is just so tone-deaf, it just really makes me genuinely surprised.
What makes you think he wants to do anything here except get a fat payday a stones throw away from his house?

For me he's a fraud - he should have walked in June but instead he signed a new bumper contract to sit on the board and make little to no decisions.

We all know we need a back up CF and a RB regardless of who the manager is so go put an offer in for Edouard/Dumfries and get the ball rolling.

Instead we'll wait around as usual.

Sadly, I have to agree.

I was hoping Brands would get a grip of the dof role once Ancelotti went, get his own choice in as manager and put some kind of long term footballing strategy in place in relation to players and style/tactics.

Either Moshiri won't let him do the job by interfering in everything, but if that was the case brands should have quit, or brands was happy to sign the contract, take the wedge and basically do nothing, much like a lot of the players hes signed for us.

We currently have a Dof in name only, and I don't see that changing if Benitez is Uzi's/moshis preferred choice.

We’ll finish between 7th and 12th regardless. I’d rather we do it trying to play football than trying not to. Get Potter in.
