Moshiri is about to commit the biggest error in the history of Everton Football Club.

Bigger than selling Alan Ball.
Bigger than taking Mike Walker
Bigger than Distin in the FA Cup semi final.
Bigger than signing Funes Mori instead of VVD ( lol)

He is an intelligent man , but I've worked with many very intelligent people who had no empathy , understanding or emotional intelligence.

I hope to God he has thought this through and been advised because I suspect he has no idea what is going to happen when it inevitably goes wrong.
Only time will tell but it certainly feels like that at this minute

Benitez was one of the few managers to beat Pep's city team just two years ago, they also came from two nil down to beat us. He's still a top manager.

beating Marco Silva's Everton is hardly an endorsement, Milwall managed it too

should we get Bruce in, they did the double over us last season

Yep its easy moaning at the owners but if we appointed Potter and were sat 15th/16th in the table come December our arses would be twitching whilst work on BMD was ongoing.

Thats the reality sadly - we just have to hope Benitez can turn back the clock and get a tune out the squad similiar to Moyes at WHU.

A lot will depend on Brands and recruitment as like I said Guardiola would struggle with this squad as it currently is.
Problem is, Brands will be playing a Moyes-like role in the transfer market, spending only what he is able to bring in through sales. Whoever thought we'd be back in that situation when Moshiri took over? In this light the appointment of Benitez starts to make sense. He kept Newcastle out of the bottom 3 in his 3 years there and spent little money. Despite a few public noises made about his under-resourcing, Benitez carried on with the job. That's how it's going to be at Everton. Let's face it, if the Club had the money to spend we'd have gone all out for CL qualification in the January transfer window by signing a top class forward (Zaha comes to mind). Bear in mind also that Moshiri has still to find investors for BMD, a development that is ultimately going to cost far more than the £500m tag currently attached.

We're in a total mess. Bad enough that the money has dried up -- but made that much worse by the imminent arrival of a RS as manager, and one whose approach to playing football makes Allardyce look like Bielsa.

Nuno beat City home and away 2 seasons ago. Get him in if that’s the yardstick. He’s at least relevant and in line with the modern PL era.

the prophets of doom all speaking with such confidence of how awful the football is going to be. If you didn't know his record, you'd never believe we are getting one of the most successful managers in the modern game. And signed some of the best players in the world, Torres Mascherano Alonso Bellamy. He is not the clapped out old duffer being described. He's had a hugely successful career. I wouldn't mind if there were other successful candidates waiting in the wings. But there is nobody. We will be lucky to get him, because make no mistake the club is in deep trouble. The players are all at daggers drawn with each other, we finished the season the worst team in the division. If we don't have a strong character we could well go down next year.

Sorry, what? Craig Bellamy one of the best players in the world?

I didn't say it was the yardstick. I used it to show he's not finished the way people describe.

That's the spirit! lol

Spanish George Graham isn't it.

You can predict it, its just waiting for the inevitable.

Staggering thing is what do the club actually think will happen, cant wrap my around the fact they think they can sneak this one in here and everyone will just clap along.

The fanbase this season are going to be alienation nation!

Be no jazzy articles of record shirt sales on the main site, after this.

It's crazy for all those reasons.

I think the only rational reason is that he's a defensive minded coach and we wont see too many losses. We just wont see too many entertaining wins.

It's a "get us to a new stadium safely" appointment.
I don't think it is a safe appointment Dave, in fact that is the last thing that it is.

I think they have tried the route of younger manager with potential and they simply have not worked. RM, Koeman and Marco Silva have not left us in a good place and cost a lot to both hire and fire.

I believe they are now looking at managers that were elite but have now moved on from their peak.
Ancelotti was such a manager and Benitez is the same.
I think they believe that managers like this have a higher threshold and are hoping they can use their experience to build up the club........ time will tell if they are right or wrong.

The season fizzled out for Ancelotti but we should remember that we were in the hunt for European places right up to the end of the season.

Of course Ancelotti had a huge level of goodwill behind him from the fans and Benitez certainly won't have that.
Benitez certainly will know that already and obviously doesn't care or he would just walk away.

The transfer activity this summer will probably tell us more about this appointment than anything else.

If we are active and do sign some good young players than Moshiri is still trying to build up the team and club.

If, on the other hand, Benitez is appointed and we are not active then I think there is an element of settling for safety under Benitez for a couple of years.

Either way, it may be a stupid or inspired appointment ... but certainly not safe or easy.
