Just a guess but I think we interviewed Nuno, weren’t convinced so kept looking.. interviewed Rafael at which point we decided to go for Nuno after all - but he’s been delaying as he wants the Spurs job.

Would explain the hold up.
Or interviewed nuno, realized he’s average and never won a pot.

then interviewed benetiz who’s won the lot and thought he’s a better manager despite the baggage?

Benitez...
It literally can't get any more depressing being a blue in 2021.
We couldn't appoint anybody worse, We scrapped the bottom of the barrel and went through the rotten floor boards below... Grabbed us a greater spotted rather poisonous red toad to march us sideways.
Thanks Mosh
Nil Satis Nisi Medocre.

the prophets of doom all speaking with such confidence of how awful the football is going to be. If you didn't know his record, you'd never believe we are getting one of the most successful managers in the modern game. And signed some of the best players in the world, Torres Mascherano Alonso Bellamy. He is not the clapped out old duffer being described. He's had a hugely successful career. I wouldn't mind if there were other successful candidates waiting in the wings. But there is nobody. We will be lucky to get him, because make no mistake the club is in deep trouble. The players are all at daggers drawn with each other, we finished the season the worst team in the division. If we don't have a strong character we could well go down next year.
Now I know you are trolling us. Best players in the world and then you cite Bellamy? Behave.

It's happening

I need to find a way to hate him less, very quickly, otherwise I won't be able to stomach going to the match

Him winning games would help, but it won't be enough, but God knows how I make the leap from pathological hatred to being able to stomach him as the manager of the team I love in 6 weeks or whatever it is until the season starts

3rd place finish and a Europa League. Semi Finals of both the league and FA Cup too.

As I've said before Rafael was actually the choice to manage the club the summer before, but because DiMatteo won the champions league, they stuck with him, waiting for a blip in form to get rid. Roman actually wanted to give Rafael a further 2 year contract and remains on very good terms with him.

As for the fans, they all respect Rafael a lot more now and they actually wanted him to take over when Lampard was sacked.
Do you remember that spokesman for Saddam Hussein during the Iraq war who kept saying how well Iraq were doing as they were getting battered, the press dubbed him "Comical Ali" I believe? This guy ^ is "Rafael's" comical Ali.
