There's a lot of hyperbole in this thread. The board and the owner of the club are trying to appoint a manager who will move the club forward and stabilise the situation following Ancelotti's unexpected departure. Benitez has a wealth of experience, and can manage the transition from the disastrous signings, through the mix of good, bad and indifferent that we currently have, and hopefully on to a better squad with more pace and a younger average age without jeopardising our Premier League status. It's not an exciting appointment but hopefully it will mean the next one can be.

Let's change our name to Newcastle then eh.

That should be our target. Appoint Benitez, retain premiership safety for the next 3 years until the stadium is built and HOPEFULLY that means the next manager can be exciting

What's another 3 10-12th position finishes in the grand scheme of things when you've seen nothing but crap for the last 26 years anyway.

I don't even know what came over me tbh thinking he was a disaster of a manager. Regardless of him doing sod all for the last 9 years, that's right up or street so he'll fit right in here and we'll give him all the time he needs to grab those 10th to 12th places and if he fails we'll pay him off handsomely for his efforts.

Listen he is not my ideal appointment but I am not going to start throwing my toys out of the pram and kick off about it just because it’s an unpopular appointment. I don’t get that negative attitude. I will support Benitez if he is appointed and I hope that he proves many people wrong and does well. If he doesn’t then so be it he will be out of the door before the end of the season and we start again. Simples.

We're acting like a side trying to stay up.

We may as well give up. There is no point in us at the minute.

They can keep talking a good game about ambition but they are showing the world that their words mean absolutely nothing.

The thing is, we sold our soul to Moshiri. There is no chance of resignations or accountability because they own the club lock stock and barrel.

There was a reason Arsenal's shareholders wanted nothing to do with our owners.
Rubbish groundless crap. The only bloody shareholder is Kronke. Blimey mate is that the best you can do. I m not supporting Moshiri here cos we dont even know if its true! Some are losing the plot on here.

I don't think the owner lacks ambition, but we need to change the type of signings that we make. We've started that with Godfrey and have been linked with pacy young players. Once we have a few more of them, then we can look at getting in a younger manager who can improve us and push towards the top 6. Currently I don't think any progressive coach in Europe would touch us.

I'm sick of starting again ffs on and on and on ,years and years of going the ground thinking positively has totally gone, just gonna be happy to meet missed friends at the match ,the rest I'm gonna try and switch off before my head falls off.

A truly dark day in the history of Everton Football Club.

The board should be utterly ashamed of themselves if as we expect, it's Moshiri who's forced this decision through.

And of those four members of the board, if any of them were not in agreement with this inane decision to appoint Benitez, then they should do the honourable thing and resign their positions and that especially goes for the Chairman.

They are supposed to be the custodians of this club, there to do the very best they can on behalf of the only people to whom the club means everything - the supporters.

Speaking purely personally, I cannot believe that other than Moshiri any of the four board members honestly and truly thinks appointing Benitez is the very best that could have been done.

It's incomprehensible to me that they think either collectively or individually that it will not split the fan base, and at a time when the fan base really needs to be 100% (or as near to that nirvana as we can be) behind a new coach/manager.

William Ralph Dean, John Moores, Harry Catterick, Brian Labone, Alex Young, Bally, Howard Kendall, Gordon West and so, so many other Everton greats sadly no longer with us will be spinning in their graves at what has become of the club they enriched with their actions, glories and successes.

Excellent post. Agree with everything.

If this happens it'll be a betrayal. Anyone within the club who stands by it will have their reputation tarnished.
