Except for the fact that he never lost any of the 3 difficult matches that he was in charge for !. Give your head a wobble mate. Facts can be awkward , can't they ?
Chelsea was the only achievement.
Second game v United was huff and puff and we couldn't hold on and drew.
Leicester in the LC: Leicester were the better team by far and we lost on the night.
Arsenal at home was dire.

It got progressively worse.

Why do people argue his case for him? Is it because they were young and hero worshipped him when we were rubbish in the 90s and he was a player who scored against Liverpool and United?

I can only think it is, because its not based on any persuasive reasoning over his 'management skills'.

Dunc’s my hero but in no way do I want him managing on the simple basis that I don’t think he’s ready

You could see it getting worse game by game.

Enlighten me then! Genuinely interested.
It's essentially designed to measure how likely a shot is of going in. The models try to take into account as many factors as it can. The one that is easiest to see is the location on the pitch where it is taken from which is what those grids might be about, but nowadays they factor in which part of the body you shoot with, where the keeper is, how many defenders are in the way, what kind of pass sets it up and a bunch of other things.

The idea is you add up all the shots and that's how many goals you should score. It is supposed to be a long term thing used over a season to show how teams are doing at creating chances and preventing them from being created against them. It can also be useful for individual players.

It is funny because the purists hate it but weirdly it pretty closely follows accepted concepts in football like it is easier to score when you're closer to the goal and that creating more chances than your opponents is normally a good thing.

As far as I understand you’re old enough to remember Everton being successful which probably gives you a different take on what is or isn’t worthy of veneration.

I think you’re spot on that to us younger fans he’s an idol so gets held in a higher regard. Still wouldn’t want him as our next manger though.

The worry about the Arsenal game was they downed tools yet again, with Ancelotti in the stands.

They had given Ferguson their token performance, and were not doing so again.

Mind you, Ancelotti couldn't say a lot more himself.

We hate it because it's completely pointless. We don't need a stat inventing to tell us the bold.

Thanks ;)

Except people do it seems since I've seen people swearing up and down that what Carlo was doing was fine all season and then we crashed and burned to 10th because it wasn't fine.

But again, it's a pointless stat. The only stat that matters is the G in xG. Telling someone after a game they've just lost they actually had an xG of 5 doesn't help at all.

Well again it isn't really meant to be used game by game. It is supposed to be more of a big picture thing.

I actually agree with that, saying at the end our xG was better can be pointless.

You know me, I love my stats, can't stand xG though. People that love it seem to forget football was successful long before it was ever a thing. Far too many stats tracked these days.

This is what worries me more than the manager we still have a squad of players that pack it in repeatedly.
