When my brother moved over to Canada 30 odd years ago to fo his PhD he was a keen rugby player. A full back and a goal kicker. He was spotted by a talent scout for American football and invited to play for trials for some team or other.

When he found out that his role would be to do exactly that - walk on, kick a ball and walk off again, he flatly refused stating (in a very affected English accent) that he would really rather prefer to play a sport.

Wasn't that fussed. He loved playing rugby, he loved what he was studying and where he was studying it. Our family values doing these things over acquiring cash.

Obviously we bitterly wish we could get the cash for doing the things we love though!
