Maybe I'm old fashioned but when I watch european games, it's typical to see Spaniards playing for Barca and Madrid...Germans playing for Bayern and Dortmund...Frenchies playing for PSG and Italian sides full of Italians.

Weve had smatterings of England internationals in our sides. Currently they are Pickford and Branthwaite -- not a coincidence, our two best players -- there has to be a nuclus of English (internationals) in our team.

Ideally this may come from the potential youth conveyor belt but if not then it should be a recruitment focus to target some of the best English players u21.
We tend to destroy local lads if they don't perform like Messi after 10 games, it's in our DNA.

It seems not.

"We have provided an injection of capital to ensure the completion of the new stadium. The transaction has seen most of Everton’s debt either converted to equity, repaid or refinanced on terms more favourable to the stability of the Club. Whilst there is much work to be done, and PSR remains a limiting factor in the short term, the underlying financial position is now much stronger."

Sounds like we’re still heavily in debt. That will lower my expectation in Jan.

Well, this is what we are saying. We have to develop England internationals.
Well it's not really because i'm saying I don't mind where players are from. If Benjamin, Loney and Graham all break through to become key players for us I'm not going to be moaning that they're not English, nor will I if we sign top class prospects from further afield. It's always great to have a local lad come through the academy of course, but I wouldn't really say I wish we'd signed Jay Stansfield instead of Chermiti, it just doesn't bother me. Zat's also saying having English players gives you an identity. Well we have loads of English players and our current identity is that we're crap, so whatever the best way to change that is, I say we do it.

We should keep our expectations low.

That makes it easier for them to be exceeded.

Still very much up against the PSR wall, like most clubs in the league.

Be interesting to see how it works going forward with the new rules.

But money, despite what we all think hasnt been an issue, for me, we have spent money, just very badly.

Aren't most of the U21s the best youngsters from all of the big clubs? Imagine they'd all cost a pretty penny.
That said, would love Dibling to play for Everton. He's a real talent.

We could pretty much put out a balanced team made up entirely of English players now, made up of proper first teamers. The problem is that loads of them aren't very good. I don't really mind where players are from as long as they perform.

Fergie at United always believed in having as many local and/or English players as he could find that were worthy of the shirt.

Scholes/the Nevilles/Beckham/Butt etc.

Then sign class foreigners - not journeymen.

If we want to be at the top of the league then we need to build a team to be at the top of the league.

Clearly we arent going to be able to sign the worlds best players on day 1. What we could aim for are the best up and coming English players -- who want game time.

Currently and the past year or so...we've seen Wharton and Gray move to Palace and Spurs -- both will be long term England internationals. The likes of Rigg and Dibling at Sunderland and Southampton as well as (perhaps) Chukwuemeka at Chelsea may be the next chaps to move.

If we could go back 12 months and sign Wharton and Gray then im sure most posters would be happy in hindsight.

People crying about these types being "high risk" or "not having an immediate impact" are brainwashed by the recent dismal performances.

That should be our target market -- why go to the likes of Palace when Everton would give you a chance?

So you don't think we should have a top academy that produces class players?

I mean, we don't have to, but the benefits of having one would be huge. I don't care where players are from - but I always think a smattering of class local players brings benefits to any side in any country.

When you consider the quality players that Liverpool have had who were boyhood Evertonians, one can only surmise that our youth system and overall club culture has been dysfunctional. I certainly hope that changes under the stewardship of our new overlords.

The debt going forward will have little to do with out spending this January. The clubs' financial results for the past 2.5 years dictate we won't be spending extravagantly.

I expect TFG will be factoring in future investments as well.

So if we have e.g £10mil to spend it wouldnt mean signing a player for £2mil down and the rest backended.

It may mean TFG work PSR to sign £50mil worth.

The key point is that the English players need to be also very, very good. Hence they'd form the nucleus of the team...

Justification right there for a £30m move for Beto to Roma.
Interesting they've used a Beto thumbnail as well on the portfolio page (Dybala for Roma FWIW).
