I think that in the long being optimistic is better for your mental health.

But if you’re always optimistic and always let down, isn’t that actually worse in the long run? As you’re suffering repeated kicks in the balls. As Lan says, it’s far better to just be realistic over either of the extremes. Judge things based on the evidence that’s unfolding in front of your eyes rather than jumping to either wild side of the fence. It’s the same with the lads in the relegation thread who flap about the prospect of Ipswich, Luton and Leeds going on 10 game winning streaks every season, it’s equally nonsensical and unhelpful.

That's not really related to what i'm talking about though. There's no issue with people being optimistic or pessimistic about Everton in terms of their personal outlook, obviously. I'm just talking about people who start spouting off about how everything's fantastic and complaining about anyone who disagrees being no better than people who automatically see things negatively.

Especially when you're an Evertonian.

I don't know how people who are glass half empty can tolerate decades of this nonsense.
I'd say the opposite really. If you expect the worst then the last couple of decades have somehow just about been better than you expected. If you constantly expect things to work out well then the last few decades would have taken a massive mental toll, because you just keep getting slap in the face after slap in the face when you're not expecting it. I remember numerous people claiming we'd had a 10/10 transfer window under Lampard a couple of years ago and were going to be a totally different proposition, I can't imagine how much more it hurt them seeing us be utterly rancid that season than it did me who fully expected it.

Well, to each their own - so good luck to you.

Consistently expecting the worst is not how I want to live my life.

I'm going to take as much joy as I can, and continue to hope for the best.

The Athletic (and other outlets) reported earlier in the year that he was part of a US-SAUDI consortium that made an offer for Eagle Football’s 45% stake in Palace.

Given that Sarofim is also Texas based and has Saudi links, I don't think it is beyond the realms of possibility that he was also involved in the same consortium.

Well it would be interesting. I frankly stopped following all of this nonsense after the transaction went through. Back to football for a bit.

Eh? Who said i'm consistently expecting the worst? I'm saying I'm capable of seeing what's good and bad and what's bad and won't convince myself water is dry just because I want to be 'optimistic' (or idiotic, as some people might call it). I was just pointing out that what you were saying doesn't actually stand up to scrutiny really, not telling you that i'm pessimistic about the owners/club or asking you to be.

Definitely sucked haha. First half of this season too tbh. Feeling optimistic again though nonetheless

Exactly. Optimistic Evertonians have ALWAYS been wrong in the end over the last 30 years. It's the pessimists who have proven to be the realists.

One would hope the new regime will flip that dynamic - but anyone optimistic under Kenwright was either delusional or an enabler.
