I don't understand the arguments against safe standing areas in grounds. They're not suggesting bringing back the terraces as they used to be. It won't be unsafe. Many would prefer standing. What's the problem?

Trevor Hicks has said it would be like turning back the clock. Football is now family friendly, and he'd hate to see the dark days return

No, I reported it 4-5 weeks ago. Obviously I can't promise that the source is perfect (dates etc - these things change) but I do know that the person claiming it works directly for the club assisting with financial matters relating to some of the players.. that's all I know, that a Spanish footballer with four letters in his surname and presently employed in Salford area has reportedly agreed to sign for Everton plus the ground info (somewhere near a large expanse of water shall we say) ..due Friday.

But Ibrox could easily happen in a seated area. The exit staircase from the back of the Gwladys or in the Upper Bullens for example.

Yes those crushes can happen in many stairwells. It makes a difference if you want to sit throughout but are in a section where people are standing as happens at many aways. At least with a mix of areas for safe standing AND other areas for seating it becomes a bit more clearcut and gives people choice.

While it is an emotive subject, standing at football isn't the Hillsborough families issue to solely decide on. I understand that they don't want it to return/have reservations but at the same time the views of those who do should be respected. No one wants a return to terracing but having a mixture of safe standing and sitting areas is better all round for fans and families attending the game.

Standing happens atm and is very unsafe given the layout of grounds and seating.

I stood all through the 80's in the Gwladys street......only things that happened was kids getting separated from their parents at full time when everyone lemminged towards the exits , which was resolved all the time by "MEET YOU BY THE CHIPPY"
