New Everton Stadium

Sorry to return to this again, but just looking at the Bristol City game on TV just now and wondering how they can afford to spend £45m on redeveloping their ground when all we can afford is a few bob on a few tins of paint every year. This despite playing in by far the richest league in the world.

Even Oldham Athletic I see have just started to build a new stand running the length of Boundary Park. When completed they'll have more executive boxes than us!

Absolutely nothing of significance has been done to GP since it went all-seater. Clearly the Board has no intention of doing anything. The reason must be obvious to everyone, and it's nothing to do with redevelopment difficulties, restricted footprints etc, but everything to do with the Board and more importantly the opaque powers behind the Board wanting their money back (and more) by way of a new stadium.

When they decided to rebuild the Park End years ago surely it would have been better at the time to consider a bigger capacity stand and include two tiers and executive boxes behind the goal. What an opportunity missed to get it right first time.

It only leaked out in the first place because the council had to publicly announce the land available for development in Liverpool for the next 5 to 10 years, and they had to announce that Everton were basically eyeing the land, and that the club had 'first dibs' on WHP.

Everton never wanted this out in the open in the first place because nothing was in place - no drawings, no plans, and crucially no money.

There was a feature on Radio City a few weeks back when an LCC councillor talked about how Everton might submit a planning application by the summer. This was exactly what Elstone said at the AGM last year.

Owned by fan and billionaire Steve Lansdown. One half of Hargreaves Lansdown. 900th richest bloke in the WORLD helps.

But a ton of that cash has been spent not on the ground. but on an ultimately pointless planning charade for a new ground, that was thwarted by the City Council/vested interests. At least Liverpool council seem to help the football clubs. Or at least try.
