New Everton Stadium

If we build a 60k stadium and they put in a temporary athletics track, it simply means less seats for the games as "ground level" will be raised. And, if it is a four stand config as has been rumoured.....then the four corners may give scope for additional temporary seating. No need to panic.

There wont be open corners. Though it wont be a 'bowl' in the truest sense of the word, it wont be 4 completely seperate stands.

The Etihad Stadium was used for the Commonwealth games and it's boss.

The only problem with it is its capacity, which is why Man City's owners have got planning permission for a massive expansion.

Look at the state of that lower tier!! Flat and miles from the pitch.
If we end up with something like the Etihad then we're really [Poor language removed]. It's got no atmosphere and the curving second tier (where the running track used to be up against) is also miles from the action.
This is exactly what we don't want to end up with.

From that echo article:

Everton are looking to build a stadium of 50-55,000 capacity, maybe more, and the dropping in of a running track will reduce that to about 40,000.

Hmmmm.

Try the other way around, lose 40k and have 15k left for the athletics! Some people don't know what they are talking about, unless we have a transformers style stadium. It also says they will pay the max 27 million pounds to convert. So all we get out of this is extra sponsorship the games may bring the naming rights and presumably the area will get more redevelopment, (athletes village, resturants etc.) which will make it better when we move in. So why would we pay extra for moveable anything. Seems fishy.

Interesting.

This just gets worse. I was hoping for a bigger capacity for us and a more modest capacity for the games probably meaning a higher platform and less impact to the stadium design

I'd suggest everyone just takes a breather and waits for the initial designs to be revealed.

Absolutely no point stressing over it until they reveal the plans and how they plan to incorporate a track.

Pages and pages of scaremongering when nobody actually knows apart from those directly involved.

If however at the time of the reveal it's an awful proposal I'll be first over the top out the trenches.

Are there any examples of a decent intimate football stadium which can be converted to an athletics stadium? The etched doesn't count as it was an athletics stadium first.

We know quite a bit though. We know that it will be a multi-purpose stadium. People have a right to be sceptical because there is no precedent for decent, intimate multi-purpose stadia as far as I am aware. I just don't see how the two are compatible.

Wembley stadium can be used for athletics but you have those stupid low bottom tiers

A "platform system" has been designed to convert the stadium for athletics use, but its use would decrease the stadium's capacity to approximately 60,000.[22] No athletics events (track and field) have taken place at the stadium, and none are scheduled.[23] The conversion for athletics use was a condition of part of the lottery funding the stadium received, but to convert it would take weeks of work and cost millions of pounds.[24]

All we actually know though is that every single person involved in the stadium - from the architect to the club to the mayor - has said the stands will be steep and close to the pitch, an intimate atmosphere is the priority and the running track will be there literally for two weeks and have zero impact on the stadium's design.

People aren't freaking out about "what we know", they're freaking about their own assumptions and fears. Which is perfectly fine, btw, but if we're dealing only in facts then the time for panic has not yet arrived.
