New Everton Stadium

When i went to Liverpool, i went to the waterfront, and the docks. To be honest, it's practicaly the identety of the city.
The history of Liverpool is conected to the docks, and i for one found the area interesting and beautiful.

I like what they done, in the area around the Beatles museum, where the have preserved the authentic buildings.

However, it would be a shame, to demolish the docks, and turn it in to a copy of Dubai. There is to much of that, already, everywhere.

Believe me mate, Nelson dock, Bramley-Moore dock and Trafalgar dock are nothing like the Albert dock. They need demolishing (a few parts aside) and redeveloping. Just a huge swathe of derelict land at the moment that could and should be put to better use.

EDIT: For some context, this is what the Albert dock used to look like not all that long ago..

Loss of World Heritage Status would also lose money for the city too. Only Dresden has ever been stripped of it and they experienced a fall in tourist numbers.

It's loss couldn't be sold as anything other than a huge international embarrassment for the city. And Everton would be positioned as the noisy family who came into the neighbourhood and destroyed the good name of the area.
As an international fan I can assure you that the world doesn't care. While I realise it's (justifiably) a source of pride to many Liverpudlians 99.9% of the international community doesn't know that the docks are a world heritage site, and 99.99999% of them would not have any opinion on Liverpool docks losing the status.

Does anybody travel to Liverpool to look at the derelict docks? Bringing those docks to life would be a much bigger attraction. A premier league stadium overlooking the dockers clock and neighbouring docks, being regularly beamed into the homes of people all over the world, would have an infinitely more positive impact on the city's tourism that the WHS status of some docks hidden behind a wall.

Fine Dave, that area will always be a big attraction, a new cruise liner terminal, a new stadium and further development of the Peel project will really enhance the area and ultimately benefit Liverpool greatly.

Heck folk might even begin to like Bootle and wave to Chico!

Has Chicos Ma got world heritage status?

There is nothing at the Central Docks site of any cultural heritage apart from a clock tower and wall , it used to be a power station which had 3 very tall chimney stacks .
It was demolished in the 80’s and the area has remained derelict ever since.

Does anyone know what they were filming at the docks? I thought it might have been a bit for walcott revel video but obviously not. It was posted on the bramley moore pub twitter page.

From 2011

The Tower of London and the Palace of Westminster could lose their status as world architectural wonders because of the damage being done by surrounding skyscrapers.

World heritage cultural organisation Unesco has warned that the Tower of London could be downgraded because of the negative impact of the Shard of Glass on its panorama.

The 1,020ft-high Shard, a 66-storey office block next to London Bridge, will be the tallest building in Europe when it is finished.

Guess what? Bugger all happened. And imho having good modern architecture near old enhances both. London and Liverpool are living cities, not museums. It's weird how UNESCO get their knickers in a twist over high quality larger developments, but say nothing about dank, low-quality low-rises which do much more damage to an area.

World Heritage Status will be lost regardless of if a stadium is built there or not.

This has been known to LCC since Peel bought the areas and the first Liverpool Waters proposals appeared.

Dresden lost theirs because of a bridge!! A single multi-use skyscraper would probably lose it for Liverpool so it's just inevitable.

If the plans go as they are proposed then it'll probably be seen as a world heritage site in a few hundred years once again any way. lol

Oh i see. Im not against it, the stadium being build. Somehow i just like these authentic places. But jobs and a uplift to the area, are also nice

It all depends on what you want for the City Dave. If you want the City to continue as it is, then fine, keep the WHS and all the restrictions that brings. However, there is little that can be done to the waterfront and also maintain the the WHS, which is why on the original masterplan it was purely housing, flats/apartments etc. placed around the dock structures. That also led to the belief that it would take 20-30 years to complete the development, because it would be very difficult to sell housing in that area in the docklands current state. It would only be realistic to expect house purchases to hit their expected values once the LW development had been completed up to Nelson and BMD, or at least 90% done.

I am very much of the view that the City of Liverpool deserves better and will benefit from the investment that will be created by an expedited LW development. If the building of Evertons ground does, as is expected, cut the time for development completion down by a third then it will be a huge boost for the area in what is proving to be very tough times for the city, once again under Tory rule and their austerity cuts. This isn't just something that Everton needs, but something that the City needs. The expected £900m economy boost from the stadium alone is much more that we can expect from WHS in the same period, or even longer. The numbers make sense for whats happening. Also, we're in a much better position to be making these decisions now, as the Tory Govt is keen to give local regions the freedom to make their own decisions with RE fundraising, especially if it doesn't come from their own purse. That's why I feel it is even less likely to be called in.

You seem to be clued up.

Forgive me but why couldn't putting a stadium etc in on the site actually enhance the status of the heritage site rather than automatically mean it is withdrawn?
