Not sure but from the start to finish through all the various stages to actually opening took over 10 years ( i think ) but they had some serious setbacks along the way.

Holy moly. 10 years?!? WOW. Did they really lay down the foundation in 2009 when they were in the mid table and on the verge of a Renaissance.

I would have guessed 2 years for the administrative tasks including planning, procurement, permissions etc and 3 years to build including landscapping and other tasks connected to the actual "building" of the stadium. 5 years. Or 6 tops. No more than that.

The final stadium development was started around 2012 and designs revealed in 2015, but its progress is inextricable from the previous failed development on the same site which was first shown in 2007. It went through planning more quickly and smoothly because we already had permission for a new stadium on that site from before, we already owned most of the land, the enabling developments could be constructed quickly, the Mayor and the borough were already on board etc.

In truth ours isn't a good reference if you're looking to work out timescales. And on top of everything else we also had the pointless Olympic Stadium site goosechase in the years between the failed scheme and the final development.

Estadio da Luz in Lisbon should be the template. Broke ground in '02 and first match played in '03. Looks good and was one of the cheapest new build stadiums. 65k seats as well.

It's always possible. But it's a long shot.

And surely the furthest we got along with a proposal was a single yay or nay from the Secretary of State over Destination Kirkby? All was in place and ready to go if that political decision had gone the other way. We are nowhere near that with this present stadium scheme.

We are much further along in this scheme than with any previous schemes, DK included.

On another point: interesting that Anderson doesn't mention anything about the stadium scheme in his Guardian article today, where he spells out how LCC have tried to be "creative" in making up for cuts to spending by investment.

The two projects have been procured under different procurement routes. Much more work has been undertaken on this current project than has ever been done under previous ones.

Unless your on about our move from Anfield to Goodison, we're quite a way behind that particular ground move.
