I believe its only in the buffer zone mate and we will be arguing that if it comes up. The Stanley dock and the dock all are the only World Heritage Sites I am led to beleive

So now we've seen the drawings, how do we think this will impact the city's UNESCO status?

Looking at it objectively, I would think it is obvious that the design is influenced by and sympathetic to its setting. The scale and massing is very similar to the dock warehouses and the materials are in keeping with the traditional dock structures.

However, I have worked with many conservationist zealots and it is anybody's guess how Unesco will react.

I would hope that the Secretary of State will see that the benefits of this development by far outweigh the relatively low conservation impacts, and that the infrastructure is already being created to cope with the local impacts.

Pedantry.

It's on a continuum of a waterfront site that is. Where it ends/starts is a bit arbitrary (near enough to lose the WHS that's for sure).

Good.

WHS does not put food on the table or bring in much needed investment. All it brings is more restrictions. The whole area is in dire need of redevelopment and £15b of investment is being put on hold whilst we argue the toss with UNESCO.

I'm all for conservation and am a member of both the NT and EH, but not to the extent where it opposes redevelopment of derelict sites and wasteland. The redevelopment of the north docks, of which BMD is a major focal point. has to take priority over WHS if it comes down to it.

Basically if UNESCO don't like it they can do one.
