Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson will issue an update on plans for a new Everton FC stadium on Walton Hall Park by October.
Last year Everton confirmed they wanted to quit their Goodison Park home to move the short distance up the road, in order to increase capacity and operate from a modern stadium that would generate more revenue.
At the end of last season the club’s chief executive Robert Elstone said the club would“scrutinise” funding before progressing with the ground move.
Mayor Anderson was asked on Twitter whether he could give an update on what was happening with the stadium.
He said: “We’re still talking and I will one way or other have something to say by end of October.”
He told the ECHO the council was still in talks with Everton FC.
He said: “I’m not prepared to keep people in the dark for longer than that.
“I haven’t got to the stage where I’m setting a deadline on a decision but we will simply be giving people an update on what’s happening in October.”
The proposed development on the park would see Everton build a 50,000-seater stadium, while 1,000 new homes and 30,000 square metres of leisure, retail and restaurant space would also built on the land.
Mayor Anderson has previously said it could create more than 1,000 jobs.
Campaign groups Friends of Walton Hall Park and Save Walton Hall Park were formed to oppose the plans.
