I think it'd be fair to say that they've got a pretty good idea who the main contractor will be mate.

Chances are, they'll already be a short list of two or three, with one of them a firm favourite with Chong. Chong came to the club from Laing in 2016 - which obviously could just be a coincidence ( that industry is specialised, so people tend to move round it from one company to another ), but you'd imagine that Laing will be favourites to get the contract with the bookies.
I know that Laings have been on site doing the prelim studies for a while now. Their directors are also very confident about it going ahead and getting the job.
 

The scary part is how the cost of Stadiums has skyrocketed. Back in 2008 it was going to cost us £78m for a 50.4k Stadium. Now we are looking at 8 times that.
The construction companies rip the clubs another one when it comes to new stadia. I can't understand why a winning bid is not stuck with rather than costs then allowed to shoot up at no impact on the builder.

Cheers mate, I knew Laings were in the driving seat a little while ago, but it's not really my area ( technically rather than geographically ) so wasn't sure what the current situation was.

That's down to the people issuing the contract. Typically, a contract will be "Cost Plus" or some variation of that, whereby the constructor gets paid the actual costs of the build, plus an agreed profit on top of that. Normally there'll be an agreed ceiling on the overall cost so the club would know the max value of the contract, but it would normally come in below that.

If the club wanted Fixed Price then, to start with, the construction company will be top heavy on all their estimates to try and make sure they turn a profit. If it comes in 20% below that, then they make a stinking profit and the club have overpaid. If, as the project goes on, it looks like it's not going to make money, then the constructors will be looking to cut costs to the bone, so if there's any weaknesses in the contract, they'll exploit them.

I'm not in construction, and we're, by many orders of magnitude, smaller fry than the likes of Laing, but with customers we've built a relationship over the years, we always work on a Cost Plus basis

“photo-voltaic canopy”. Sounds like the roof will be covered in solar panels. Nice to see them making moves towards sustainability
 
But what if he had won and the rest of the country got to enjoy the level of spending on public transport that London has taken to expect for decades? We might have had a new train station next to BMD newly reopened lines and stations all over the city region and a regulated bus service taking fans to and from the stadium, amongst other things.

if no stadium what is the point,but leave it that Mate.

i don’t think it’ll be that quick, it’s going to take donkeys to get it up on the planning portal, do the rounds of the various council departments for feedback etc (you’ve got all environmental aspects and environmental health for food outlets etc). Then it needs to go to committee, you’ll definitely have complaints lodged from the normal activists (green, transport, heritage etc).

Exactly. I had to pass through Manchester yesterday on public transport. The Tram System was impressive which brought home a little how far this city is behind some other parts of the country. For the regeneration of this specific area there needs to be an improvement in clean public transport. Compare nearest station stops of BMD and Arsenal Tottenham Newcastle Man City.
