New Everton Stadium

I often have to drive past the Colchester Community Stadium (opened 2008) as it’s clearly visible sat alongside the A12. That was also a Barr designed and built stadium, and every time I drive past I think “thank feck we didn’t end up with something like that”. It must be the most basic, non-inspiring “modern” stadium around. Admittedly their build budget was lower than Kirkby would have been, but still, you just know we’d have ended up with something just like it.
I'm no fan of this stadium design at the docks, tbh. It looks like it could be a Leisure centre in Colchester too.

But I think we all know the location is the feature to this.

Imagine Everton in Kirkby! FFS the club would have been one step away from becoming Coventry City.

There were a lot on unanswered questions about KD tbf. Were there any transport provisions that were nailed on at the time? Because 11,000 coming out of the Echo causes absolute bedlam on the Strand (usually at ~10pm). Can only imagine what 55,000 leaving a football ground at 5 on a Saturday would have done.
I've attended the arena many times and have never really had a problem tbh. The point is the city centre handles far bigger numbers every rush hr and the waterfront has also handled river festivals etc, again with bigger crowds. No other area has the same amount of public transport within walking distance, with single bus/train/ferry journeys available from all parts of the city region and national rail hub too, meaning the vast majority could've left their cars at home. Football crowds are also different to concert goers in that football crowds are regular attendees and that familiarity allows the crowd to adapt the most efficient travel plans as opposed to irregular visitors, out of towners or people attending for one-offs. I agree that the Loop site might've been superior for general access than KD.... because that is the pitfall of any waterfront site. But if you think transport/access was an issue at KD, then BMD is far more limited. For Night games with less public transport, the city centre also has easily the largest number of car parking spaces available.

I personally love the BMD design, not just the location but the overall aesthetic.

Now THIS is what a leisure centre / stadium in Colchester would and does look like….

Hard to ignore when it clutters up the thread every few days.
Still, as long as you keep yourself relevant it's all good eh. ?

Clutters up the thread? It's called discussion...... Maybe you could buy yourself a dredger to "keep yourself relevant"..... and then continue to bury your head in the sand.

I'm as irrelevant as I've ever been or I'm ever likely to be.
It's not discussion, it's boring the tits off people over a project that's been dead for 30 years.
