New Everton Stadium

52k is a joke
They said a few years ago when the first images were released that the capacity could be increased to 60k in the future. Never heard any more about how or if this is still possible. Was hoping there would be details on the stadium website - which they said they were putting “the finishing touches” to in December ?

52k is a joke

Yes it is a joke. Start from scratch and still end up with a stadium not as big as our peers. Well the club doesn't see that group of teams as our peers any more it's obviously the likes of Newcastle, Villa, Leicester, Southampton..

Even if you were talking soley about international games, or major matches like CL or Europa I and II finals, or even FA Cup semi finals, in the north west, our NEW stadium will be the smallest of the major stadiums.

Whether there is a plan or theoretical plan to increase the capacity in the future, is questionable. There are those that think it's safe standing. But that would be a major challenge and a change in the law. To get to just 60k there would need to be at least 20,000 safe standing. That's at a near 1:2 ratio. Meis did say the stadium could be expanded when build and then changed that to it could not be expanded when built. Is there any reason why the north stand could not be a double decker or triple tier stand? Same with the east and west stands. But once build I doubt there is any room to expand other than the north stand maybe.

Ah. Size envy. Something about waving?

Everton that

52 is crap. It’s the the 7th largest in the league. We should have went for 58 at the minimum.
I think the guys who did their due diligence on this must have come to the conclusion that we wouldn't fill 58. I think not being one of the super 6 and not being in London are factors involved.

Look at City for example they are arguably the best team in the world and they just can't fill seats still. I still find it strange how wherever you go in the country you see Liverpool and man utd fans in all generations. Even arsenal and Chelsea, but youngsters just don't seem to want to take to being City fans.

Maybe that's something they had in mind that even if we ever did become a top team on the pitch we still wouldn't become a hugely followed club.

I just think bigger doesn’t always mean better, and who cares what other grounds hold. Would rather have 50K evertonians than 50+10K tourists.
