New Everton Stadium

I think the guys who did their due diligence on this must have come to the conclusion that we wouldn't fill 58. I think not being one of the super 6 and not being in London are factors involved.

Look at City for example they are arguably the best team in the world and they just can't fill seats still. I still find it strange how wherever you go in the country you see Liverpool and man utd fans in all generations. Even arsenal and Chelsea, but youngsters just don't seem to want to take to being City fans.

Maybe that's something they had in mind that even if we ever did become a top team on the pitch we still wouldn't become a hugely followed club.
Citys average attendance is 52,000, in a ground that holds 54,000.

The emptyhad myth is something kopites have ran with and everybody has swallowed it.

52 is crap. It’s the the 7th largest in the league. We should have went for 58 at the minimum.

Its what we asked for. We asked for stadium that would give us the best chance to recreate the atmosphere at Goodison at its best.

Building a stadium to seat 52k but stand 60k is just that and is closer to our history of having a jam packed stadium for the occasion, than it is having 58k sat down.

You cant recreate the closeness of what Goodison used to give by building only so that people are comfortable when they're sat down. Its a balancing act. I put a post up a good while back on here about it, I'll bump it if I can find it.

Basically, its down to what you would prefer, more people, or a stand that looks bigger.

We’d struggle at 60k, we just about filled Goodison pre BMD announcement.
The waiting lists only appeared then because people became interested, but there is no way the club could just take a chance on an extra 20k turning up.
I reckon the numbers of the next generation of Everton fans would have slowed down too, with the rise of other teams and computer games, other interests etc.

We used to go to the Sunday Heritage market opposite BMD until it closed. If you weren't there early doors it was a ball ache to park. What will be the score with people travelling by car to the game. Will the housing estates up past the Chinese Supermarket towards Scottie road be chocka and residents going mad? Will we see even more double yellows in the area?

I remember when I was young getting lifts to the game and seeing that market..

Off topic but what did they actually sell?

It was reported that West Ham and Man city put the attendance at how many tickets have been sold or given out. If they have a combination of sold and free tickets at say 50,000 then that is the attendance recorded. Lots of the give away tickets are not used and not all sold tickets attend so whatever attendance is reported is via sold tickets and free tickets regardless of them turning up or not and not by the click of a turnstile

Well aren't you a barrel of laughs.

I couldn't disagree more. We just about filled Goodison? Erm there were sell outs every week.
That's with no success for 25 years as was.
That's with struggles on the pitch
That's with an old stadium
That's with lots of obstructed views.

Also, our stadium capacity is really low for the club we are and aspire to be, there was a demand both season tickets and match by match basis. Just not big enough is old Goodison.

We might be pretty shocking right now on the pitch (and off it) but a new stadium is a catalyst for more fans. If you check all clubs that have moved you'll see a pretty amazing trend.

As for the last point, regardless of your view point, i'd say that's the same for any club.

Man City are well known for exaggerating their attendances. The large pockets of empty seats are not an optical illusion. Police figures for actual attendances at the Etihad showed only 83% seat occupancy as opposed to official figures of 96%.
