New Everton Stadium

Plenty of docks have been filled in over the years......... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Liverpool_Doc
Yeah, Toxteth/Herculaneum docks being filled in for Brunswick Business Park springs to mind.

That was before world heritage status though, UNESCO would be all over that.

UNESCO have threatened to remove the world heritage status almost since day one.

And whatever your opinion of him, Joe Anderson has had the balls to say that the city cannot stand still, some things must develop and progress.

The waterfront is magnificent and that can only be enhanced by a new Everton ground. The magnificence won't change, and we must preserve it, but also it must not become a museum piece - the city has a history of growth, and that must continue and not stagnate for the sake of an organisations tourist title.

I'm 100% all for heritage and history and preserving things, but we must do it with one eye on the future so the past and the present can be accomodated.

I'm not arguing their corner, I want the ground on the waterfront, as an aside though, being surrounded by docks is what will be the stadium character, so filling one in will be counter productive.
Being on the banks of the Mersey, sharing that waterfront, is what will give it character. If we have to fill in a minor dock to make that possible, it's a no-brainier.

Isn't there enough room there as it is without filling in a dock? We need this to go through seemlessly without having to fight our way through red tape.

Conservation isn't a means of stopping everything.

We are talking about a city here that lost 50% of its population between 1920-1990 and only recently arrested that decline.

I'm of a dim view against south of England politicians telling the north of England what to do. They allowed the north south divide to happen. London gets billions whilst the north gets nothing. I don't much like Joe Anderson or some of the local politicians much either however.

Liverpool needs to build up the image of the city in architecture and project the highest standards in the city once again. It's that which brings jobs and people back

Have no problems with Peel. At least they're doing something about it.

I have a problem with people saying we can't do things in the north of England. Whilst the south gets billions in investment.

Everton are planning a summer upgrade to the exterior of Goodison Park.

The proposals include adding cladding to the corners of the stadium and featuring imagery on large banners on three sides of the ground.

New exterior lighting is also being planned for the start of the 2016/17 season.

The Club held a consultation event with local residents on Thursday evening ahead of a formal planning application to Liverpool City Council.

As part of the submission, the Club is also looking to secure approval for the Holy Trinity statue which, if approved, is expected to be installed during the 2016/17 season.

The Club will continue to work closely with the Fans’ Forum on the design work for the exterior refurbishment project, while interior branding work on Goodison’s concourses will also continue after a successful first phase of the project was completed in 2015.

In the interests of accuracy, the City of Liverpool did indeed halve its population from the post war onwards. 900,000 in 1939 to about 450,000 now. That said, I think we need to remind ourselves that in the same period the population of Merseyside (or to give it its new groovy title, Liverpool City Region) didn't decline anywhere near as sharply. I think we need to be mindful of using the depopulation stat very carefully. Every city in the land (yes, London also) suffered the same depopulation as people moved from the urban core to the suburban edge. For some reason, it seems only Liverpool is the only city beaten with that particular stick, I don't know why. Not everybody moved down south or emigrated to Canada and Australia. Most only moved a couple of miles over a municipal border. I do agree however, the urban core should double its population in the next 50 years. I think a stadium and associated facilities down at the riverfront would encourage development of housing which would help in this respect.

Mate. Fact is fact. Depopulation caused the centre of Liverpool to become dilapidated and neglected. Severely.

The Everton stadium provides an enormous opportunity to put Everton in TIER 1 of all stadiums/clubs available.

We can look at our stadium harking back to - Everton firsts. - First stadium roof on a club football stadium in the England etc.

It also will put EFC at the front of the imagery associated with the city and the north west of England in general.

I'm not from Liverpool. However, originally family from Wirral. Like @MoutsGoat I took the Dixie Dean route to Everton.
