I'll likely shed a quiet tear when Goodison is torn down, but there's a part of me that is really looking forward to rebuilding the club by the river. I watch a lot of vintage football - The Big Match Revisited, old Match of the Days, etc. - and what strikes me is that so many stadiums back then have either been closed or radically revamped over the intervening years, while Goodison looks...pretty much the same now as it was then, with relatively minor modifications.

Sure, the Park End is "new" - and St. Lukes has been obscured - but other than new scoreboards, our ground has basically decayed. Anfield looks like a different ugly sister to the original, but it does look different. Stamford Bridge bears no relation to what it looked like then. Highbury, Maine Road, Upton Park, and White Hart Lane are long gone. Villa Park looks substantially different. St. James' Park is like a new stadium compared to then. Only Old Trafford looks similarly familiar. And, given the state of disrepair there, that's not a good comparison.

Our stadium - arguably the best of the lot in the 1980s - is now, unquestionably, the shabbiest of all the big clubs. It is a perfect mirror image of our decline as a club.

Roll on the dock!

we aren’t a big club!

Come to Liverpool for the first time in a while today. Going to the match tomorrow with my Dad and went to see Bramley Moore this afternoon for the first time in a couple of years. The photos and videos (while brilliant) just don’t get across how big it actually is. She looks magnificent.

Having said that here is a photo I took through the barriers. The lights on the South stand are great and the lights down the side look much better in person too.

Muckers who worked on the stadium posted on here a few weeks back to say he'd heard from LOR that they had squeezed more seats in and it would be just over 53k. But that South stand was deffo stated as 13k so it seems a big jump to 14,850 doesn't it .

I've had a sneaking suspicion that they might squeeze a few more seats in (and posted a few times on the subject). Let's hope it's true.

Hope you, and especially your dad, have a great day. What does he think of the new place?
