New Everton Stadium

I only mentioned Kirkby because I was falsely accused (again) of being against anything other than redevelopment, and also to respond to the paucity/fallacy of the argument of not ever questioning "professionals".

No-one ever said that Kirkby was outside Merseyside.... however the key point was that it was a poor location on the peripheries and was clearly at the behest of third parties. Most of the same arguments would've applied to a proposal to move to Speke or Gillmoss (both within the city boundary), albeit with a slight name change to the campaign.
Purple wheelie bins in Speke don't put us in the same bracket as Kirkby

I think Keep Everton In Our City (KEIOC) beg to differ on that as they were the forefront of not wanting a KirkbyDrome purely because it was outside the city.

On reflection (I was all for the move to Kirkby being from there), the biggest frustration was always not progressing under Kenwright given the ample opportunities (Kings Dock, European Football etc) and that just added to it.
I was a member of KEIOC from its formation at the CASA in Hope street. The being outside the Liverpool boundary was a handy anchor for our name that was pretty much thought up on a whim. It was also not lost on the Kopites who jumped on it with sock robber chants straight away. They key issues for everyone involved was the unsuitabily of any peripheral site, the complete lack of a redevelopment option in the ballot and the various lies that came with it, which some were privvy to. Dave Kelly is also a Kirkby resident.... i was also working in Kirkby at Balfour Beatty just prior to it. So it certainly wasn't an anti-kirkby per se.

I wonder how much BK lost & spent on that project ?...... we belong in this City we were here first .....BMD is suitable, but the King's Dock site was better another mess by BK .... he wanted to keep hold of his train set for just a 30 million of outside of investment .... BMD is the next best thing .....

Why are you still going on about Kirkby Tom?

I wasn't totally against the idea, though I had reservations. The one argument that did wind me up is the "it's not in the city" bollocks. As far as I'm concerned, Kirkby is part of Liverpool. Don't care what some line drawing, vote influencing politicians say. To say Kirkby is not in Liverpool is akin to trying to tell Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea et al that they're not in London.
I agree with that. But regardless of that, it was simply too far from the city centre. Even had it been in nearby Croxteth or down in Speke I would have been against it and those places are part of the City of Liverpool. We had to move and we had to move closer to the city centre and not further away. Thankfully, we did.

I am 76 yes old in January and have terminal cancer, I treated myself to a corporate seat knowing it was for 3 seasons. Didn't even think I would make the new stadium but I'm getting closer, it gave me something to aim for and I'm not going anywhere till we win a cup. Gives me another 50 years.😂

Hope they give you one of the best seats at the new ground, but winning a cup in the next 50 years hmm…..

All the best to you fella !!!

Tom,

Genuine question here

What’s your beef with the new stadium exactly ? Everyone probably has something about the new stadium they don’t like and I’ll share the only two I have.

1) capacity is too small

2) it’s next door to the poo station

Other than that I think this stadium is iconic, unique and beautiful. The walls I heard someone moan about is the boundary between two stands of different configurations. I think there are no obstructive views of the pitch and the facilities appear genuinely world class.

Interested to know your pros and cons of the new stadium rather than you getting hammered about Kirby or GP redevelopment.

For me the pros far outweigh the cons on this
