I dont know for certain, but that's how it works for me this season.
You can currently gift your ticket to a person with a membership number. From my understanding, this will continue, but they will need to be a member.

This means they will have to pay the club's fee, and there'll be a limitation to the number of people you can add to your account.

I'm confused about why this is needed. Is this to give a person with a membership number some sort of credit, or is it to follow Everton's rules?

I mentioned it on a previous post but we have been passing on our season ticket to various family members or friends for years at Goodison if we can't attend a certain match for whatever reason and never had to jump through any hoops. The season card has just been scanned at the turnstile by whoever was using it and no Steward has ever questioned it. I assume there are hundreds, maybe thousands doing this every week.

Are Everton intending to put a stop to this at the new ground?

Effectively yes. They wish to extrapolate as much money as possible from it's supporter base by all means necessary under the pretence of preventing ticket touting.

Ensure friends n family are associated to your account now (if no limit). I doubt they'll want the administration of wiping down everyone's account in readiness for next season

How do you enter family and friends to your account.. I have a ticket for the Trinity Bar, but can also get my season ticket which I would like to pass on to my grandson. On a match by match basis.

The physical season card allows this, the new stadium though is a 'digital first' arena. They are seemingly expecting us all to use mobile phones to store their tickets and not making physical season cards widely available. In this case, I would expect it yo be teh same as now, that you can share your ticket with friends and family on the ticketing system, but they must have a customer number, and to get a customer number, they must be a member.

What I was thinking actually last night was, my youngest was a member about 3 years ago, but he still has his customer number and I expect that I could share a ticket with him if I so wanted to, so maybe you only have to get it once.

I only know about now (and I'm not a ST holder...yet).
You have to have a digital account. Within there (More - Tickets - Friends and family network) is the option to search for "members", search criteria is member number and surname.
Alternatively 'Add member', which the club will use the email address you provide, to email the recipient a link to activate. Im guessing they too, have to have a customer number

You don’t need a membership in order to have a customer number. If you’re a brand new fan and buy a ticket on general sale, you get a customer number. I’ve had the same customer number for over 20 years, when I bought my first membership 6 years ago, my customer number stayed the same.

Customer number isn’t enough, there needs to be an active membership attached to the number in order to transfer the ticket.

I can vouch for this. I was in Edinburgh in December and had to miss the Wolves game. My father-in-law was going to take my son to the game using my season ticket, but I forgot to leave the cards. I signed him up on the website to get him a customer number, but I couldn't transfer the tickets to him. In the end I called Everton and they explained that the customer number needs to have an active membership now for you to be allowed to transfer it (this wasn't the case until this season). I had to pay £35 over the phone to activate a membership for my father-in-law (who's actually a Watford season ticket holder) for him to be allowed to take my ticket digitally.
