Peter Farrell told me that he arrived at Goodison for the record attendance derby (78,299) and the streets around the ground were nearly empty - the crowd was already inside a couple of hours before KO.

Peter used to get the bus to the match by the way

I still doubt very much that Usmanov, assuming that is who you are alluding to, will be buying into Everton, though admittedly, I know nothing about it. I also doubt very much that he was down at Liverpool Docks 'putting a spade in the ground' yesterday. They would only do that after certain announcements, allowing for a certain level of media presence. That is a huge part of any project, and one that is usually well documented, certainly when it is one of so much local importance.

I'm only passing it on. Can't comment on why they're doing it this way.

The club are delaying announcement until the new owner can cut existing ties & announce his takeover.

He put the first spade in the ground himself yesterday.

don't need a spade as there's no ground to dig. Could use a hose pipe though to suck that dock dry and then the spade work can start
