New Stadium- How to size it?

A lot of math in that one. From what remember I think 60k seems pretty reasonable with an ability to add 5-10k depending on support and consistent success. Though it seems support has been very strong despite limited success for this current sustained period.

Proud, loyal Evertonians there.

One thing that personally bothers me is when a stadium is a quarter empty or something. It just looks and feels bad (Etihad...?). So rather go smaller and always have a packed house, that's just me though. I relate it to dancing. No one wants to dance in a big space they like it compact, once again maybe this is just me.

Good article.

55000 as a starter

But it has to be able to expand. 55000 just has us on par with loads of other clubs, we want to be ahead of those clubs. We want to aim to be the biggest and best in our league.

I'd say a figure of 80000 maximum, because you have to consider how it expands, ie one tier of about 4000-6000 on each stand.

So you expand in 4 stages as and when you want to, rather than jumping to the top level.

Good read that and well done @catcherintherye

I hope the powers that be keep prices reasonable. I often wonder how parents cope with costs when you see a Father with 2 kids.

Surely 60,000 at a reasonable price is better than 40,000 at extortionate prices.

with great difficulty mate (espesh with a non footy liking Mrs), going in the family enclosure with 1 u11 is cheaper than going in Gwladys as a non season ticket holder, if it weren't for the interest free deal on the credit card I'd be up the spout, costs me about £750 at the moment for Me, 1x u16, 1x 16 y.o.

we do have cheap prices in comparison with many but as I pointed out in the summer they could've halved the prices and still been 'quids in' with the new tv deal, I really hope that we continue with cheaper than most admission prices and also really hope that with any new stadium we will be following the Bayern Munich way of doing things rather than the Arsenal way.

A very good piece. To the new stadium clubs looked at you could add the experience of the likes of Leicester City whose gates shot up by around 40% when they moved grounds -- and they were hardly setting the world alight at the time.

There are some sophisticated statistical means of analysing the impact of simultaneously impacting factors (eg multiple regression analysis) but the article gets to the right conclusions via simpler means.

One word of caution on using official attendance figures though -- those from the 70s and 80s were significantly underrecorded........

Great article at least from the point of discussion ,I think the most important thing I read from the comments is the "empty stadium " feeling and I have been there ,I was one of the 7000 ish but most of the maths seem to point to 55/60,000 and I do believe that even though there are so many distractions other than football , it does remain a dominant pull on Saturday afternoons and given a little success there is no reason to think the achievable attendance would not be in the lower 50,000's and a little to accommodate occasionals

Some good stuff in there @catcherintherye

One thing that never seems to get mentioned in these discussions is is there a capacity which is just too big, and not because we might not fill it.

Personally I think 60000 is about the maximum capacity I'd be happy with.

Although "going to the match" would always be my preference, I wouldn't really want to be stuck in the gods, week in, week out like some must be at the Emirates. Being at the back of the Top Tier at Wembley is OK once in a while, but every other week wouldn't really suit me.

Well Top Balcony can seem like you're stuck in the Gods, some like that view.

Very interesting and well thought out article mate.

Anything over 50-55k will require success on the pitch to fill, which there is no certainty of. Wasn't a big part of the need for a new stadium hospitality and non match day incomes as well? Would it make sense to have a few less seats if it meant more of those facilities?

People underestimate our support. We're not at the top level in terms of support, but we're one of very few clubs who have support in every part of the UK. We do lack in terms of the global market somewhat but we still have relatively large presences in key areas such as the US.

We need a ground that reflects our standing as a club and is worthy of our heritage. 60000 seater which is affordable for all has to be the aim. The club has been neglected and down trodden for too long by those who were supposed to be investing their time and best efforts into maintaining our place in the game. The stadium is what can help get us back to where we should never have fallen from.

I'm not getting carried away or presumptuous because that's just utter stupidity with the Blues, but I'm hopeful and cautiously optimistic dare I say, that good news is on the horizon.
