Depending on where you are in the UK, you can fly to NYC for pretty cheap rates. Some airlines are much more competitive than others. I went with Norwegian from Gatwick and would highly recommend them - their seats are wider and further apart from each other than most other airlines, and their premium economy fares are pretty good.
