Its her 30th next March and I know she wants to go
Depending on where you are in the UK, you can fly to NYC for pretty cheap rates. Some airlines are much more competitive than others. I went with Norwegian from Gatwick and would highly recommend them - their seats are wider and further apart from each other than most other airlines, and their premium economy fares are pretty good. No good to you if you're based up north of course, but just in case...

On more than one occasion it's been cheaper (sometimes considerably) to drive and stay in a decent hotel around London than fly locally.
