I thought I was done with Everton a few weeks back, and now here I am with renewed optimism nervous to see how we perform.

If we revert to type and crumble I'll be gutted as it feels like a fresh start, a win though and it could be a great springboard to blasting up the table and away from trouble before a difficult run.

Why do I put myself through this.

Same. This match sets the tone, doesn’t it?

I think I’d take a draw, but maybe that’s just me wanting to tamp down my own sense of expectation.

Depends on the manner of the draw. Chucking one away like we did a few years ago against this lot would be as bad as a loss. A good performance where we don’t quite get over the line due to bad finishing/great keeping/general bad luck would probably just about keep the optimism going into the next game.

I been excited allday for it… hope I don’t regret it

I'd have taken a draw, then I saw the Newcastle team and if we're high on confidence we should be beating them, but y'know, Everton.

Fair points.

I think it’s probably important we don’t get too downhearted if we draw, though. That’s progress in the context of the horror of this season. Our league form is a hell of a trough we have to climb out of, and it won’t necessarily happen overnight.

A bit concerned that this might be Frank's preferred formation going forward, but I'm also kind of happy that we're going with continuity from the Brentford game. Glad that we have Mina starting, and when's the last time we had a stronger bench? I honestly can't think of a better one for a while.

I was too, but after Brentford he more or less said it wasn't. I think he said something along the lines of it being a short term solution, and mentioned the strength of the formation being to create better passing lanes from the back.

If we're going to go with it, Townsend at left wing back is a positive move. He's got potential to do well as wing back, and should push us up the pitch more than our other options.
