Let's face it though lads, if we were getting bought by oil rich Saudis there'd be a lot of our supporters defending it too, because that's what club loyalties do, they blind you to things because you've got the blinkers on

Yes it's certainly a good time to put money into football. However if the general impression was around £150m a season, certainly pre-crisis you won't be moving up the league substantially on that alone.
The reference to post Covid, as anything is possible. £150m a season could quite quickly become massive money.
I do wonder what the impact of oil price collapse will have on City/Newcastle though.

I think you're being harsh on Benitez there. He's spent a lot of money, but he had to overhaul a team to prepare it for a return to the Premier League, then add to it to try and keep us up, which he did. Bruce has played some of the worst football I've ever seen watching Newcastle and that anecdotal claim is born out by whichever performance metrics you care to trust. We've got more points this season, but the entire league has been weird so I wouldn't praise Bruce too much.
Bruce wasn't welcomed by the Newcastle fanbase because he's been proven to be one of the worst Premier League managers of all time. The performances of the team this season have born that out. The reception has warmed slightly as results have ticked by, but he remains a poor football manager at this level.
His football is awful, but he's done well to get us 13th when pre-season expectations were relegation. It's a fairly low bar he's cleared, but he has cleared it.Here

Why does the fat man get lauded for clearing the same low bar while playing the same atrocious football?
