Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Daily Fail

Reconfirms...all they had to do was clarify if the club would be separate from being state owned. Even offered independent arbitration. PIF rejected it and pulled out.

Just take it on your lardy chin you Scottish wet wipes

Interesting. I mean there's always more to these stories, but its quite damming. Some broader points;
1) Saudi for whatever reason clearly do not want to run a club. LIkewise they do not want to deal with piracy.
2) The PL have probably now backed themselves into a corner, where countries looking to invest in the PL will no longer want to/be allowed to (the days of a CIty style takeover have gone).
3) Saudi will not invest in the PL again, or perhaps football. Don't rule out them investing in another league to spite the PL.
4) You do have to question the commitment to Newcastle. Samuels has already raised questions over the funds previously. Even if it had gone through, it's highly unlikely they wanted to spend vasts sums of money. That is even less now.

If I was Asley I would consider legal action against the buyer. That would be hilarious as well.

1) Why run it? With some initial effort you could get someone else to do that, then take a regular profit and see your asset's worth grow ideally. It implies that they only see the club as an investment vehicle or unlocking something else (like Bramley Moore and the dockside development for Moshiri et al.) which is not a bad thing, but they're evidently not the over-generous benefactors that the jawdee nation is crying over.
2) Not all states are as bad as the Saudis. I do suppose though that it's probably the more despotic ones that would buy into a club. But then again an oil wealthy state like Norway could be interested if the numbers were right for the right club?
3) I think you are right. It'll be a long time before they are even considered an acceptable regime to buy into the PL. I look forward to the day they are acceptable as that would be better for everyone all round.
4) Spot on. Just an investment opportunity. At what point do you just walk away and not deal with the hassle. I'd have thought a lot earlier in the process and I'm surprised that they even were advised that this would go well.

What's their reaction been to this then?

Was something that was already mentioned since the Sheff United owners have done the same thing. Net worth of millions. Invested zero.

They've started a petition, organised a boycott of the paper, and all the advertisers in the paper.

Gary Ballchin is youtubing his harassment of the poor receptionist at the Daily Mail HQ this afternoon, and 3 of them are going to have a mass demonstration before going back home for a Gregg's.

Some of them are going to go to the Bigg Market tonight and take off their shirts in a mass drunken protest.

Mick Quinn is organising a fundraising event where you pay a fiver to punch a horse to continue the battle.

Paulie the complete Belter will be tweeting throughout the night.
