Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

I think the banner by palace fans was distasteful

Lets face it none of these other clubs including us actually care about human rights, it is just a smokescreen for our pure jealousy. Look at how all the clubs attended that secret meeting in a panic.

The geordies are coming to dominante and us and everyone else is in fear
What was distasteful? The truth?

A banner protesting human rights abuses is distasteful?
How is that then mate?

Playing devils advocate, I would say I can see an argument for the pictures being distasteful and/or racist.

I don't agree that it is, by the way, but those aspects are definitely close to the line and can see an argument that some may find it so.

They are now on our doorstep and it is a great opportunity to highlight the human rights abuses and wholeheartedly agree with the banner, I would maybe have left off the pictures and left the words to say all that needed to be said.

I think those caricatures are fair game. Perhaps Richard Masters may have a case to be upset?

The right and proper thing to do, would be for that banner to be passed from Palace to whoever is playing them next and then continue passing it on for each game after that.

One thing for sure, is that it got plenty of publicity and the Palace fans should be applauded for having the stones to do it in the first place.

You and the Police say it isn’t racist. Good enough for me. It is defined by law btw so either it is or it isn’t. In this case it isn’t.
People can be offended by many things, that is a matter of personal taste.

I do think it's a bit rich from us to start making a noise about this now. There have been dodgy characters owning our clubs for the best part of 20 years now. We've had ample time to protest and have done nothing.

Not that specifically but I can imagine those over at City and Chelsea in particular have been involved in some pretty dodgy stuff.
Possibly. We can all imagine, and take a view on what is “pretty dodgy stuff.”
I just don’t get the negativity around protesting now about this specific take over. If your view is that this stuff has been going on for years and no one has done anything then I would expect you to be glad a group has made their feelings known.

Yeah I mean I didn't say I was against protesting. At least that wasn't my intention. But I do think we should also be critical of ourselves for not having done anything sooner (myself included).

Their have been fan groups protesting against owners before but they have tended to be related to their own clubs. (Charlton, Brighton, Wimbledon, Chester - off the top of my head).
I hope that any continuing protests bring much greater governance to Football in this country (an independent regulator with real power) and a brake on this race to the bottom in financial greed.
